If I have a mirrored RAID set up, do I even need to use Time Machine?

YES. As someone who used to use RAID, let me tell you RAID only protects you against a very small subset of possible data problems.

Drive gone bad? Check.

Accidentally deleted something you want to keep? Nope.
Overwritten an old file? Nope.
Slow progressive data corruption that you don't catch till it's too late? Nope.
Made a change to a document, photo or a video, saved, then thought 'oops?' Nope.
Mythical Mac virus actually arrives and deletes your files? Nope.

RAID won't help with these. Time Machine does.

Don't have a free drive to do so yet... maybe in the future... I DO have 3 externals now... as soon as sell my iMac I'll need to reconfigure everything so that my Macbook is the center of my Home computer system. Right now everything is kind of split.

I am curently using it now, and I have actually had to use it... I only have a 120GB external though, so I am planning on an upgrade very soon!

Ive been using SuperDuper! for about a year now just to keep everything in place barring a disaster. My question before i give TM a go is when i do my initial backup, can you select backing up your entire internal HDD, therefore preserving every minor detail?

Edit: nevermind, found out you can. ill give it a try

Absolutely I use it. It has even saved my bacon on more than one occasion.. I tend to trash files before thinking about it sometimes...
