You're stupid for saying that. I voted no.

Purely out of curiousity, why did you vote no? Becuase of the size, screen type, or behaviour of the OP? Lol, maybe we should make a new poll for reasons on why people vote no.

It's just my own personal preference. First all, I like the 3.5" form factor. (screen wise). I know it won't make the phone bigger at all, but I like the current size of the screen. Plus, the poll specifically asked if I would like a 4" screen with the same resolution that we already have in the 3.5" devices. Wait a minute, wouldn't that just make everything elongated? And make each individual pixel look slightly bigger than what it is now? That seems like a downgrade in my opinion. To me, iOS is optimized for a 3.5" screen, so I don't feel the "need" to make it bigger. Lets be honest, but all across iOS, pretty much everything is optimized to the 3.5" screen.

Mainly, its just personal preference. I like the proportions that the bezel and screen have and making the screen larger without changing the bezels would just throw off those proportions. Plus, the screen is longer too. We can't really say, but I think Apple would have some reasonable proportions between the bezel and whatever screen they chose rather than throwing a bigger screen on the current form factor. If they do that, the phone becomes larger.

Also, I'm concerned about the screen resolution staying the same on a device that would be half an inch larger! Something would look stretched out imo.

So I'm voting no. However, I wouldn't mind voting to a 3.5" screen with the same goodies that were in the poll question.

Also, does anyone really think Apple is going to change display resolution again? They just made a pretty large jump and developers had to change their apps to match the latest specifications. Are they going to make developers re-do their stuff all over again in just a years time?

That's cool, everyone has their preference :)

Moving from 3.5" to 4" with the same resolution would cause the pixels to get bigger, but by a very small percentage. The ppi would still be insanely high. Honestly being spoiled with high ppi on the iPhone 4 makes every other display feel lacking lol. In regards to iOS & apps, they're made for the resolution itself, not the size, so growing a bit wouldn't be a problem.

And in my opinion, if Apple wanted to go with a bigger screen, they would have done it last year. The resolution change and all the marketing around retina, that would have been the time to do it.

Nope love my Retina and I like the screen size, however I am sure if Apple comes out will a slightly bigger screen (not that I think they will) it will be sure to please the eye.

Not at all. If the resolution stays the same, none of the apps would have to be updated. And the resolution can stay the stame, the Retina Display would still keep it sharp. Many people don't realize just how high a 320 dpi really is. The vast majority of devices including your laptop probably have a dpi of under 140. A 4" screen with a 960x640 resolution would have a dpi of ~290 which is still twice the dpi of most devices including most Macbook Pros and Apple Cinema Displays.

Personally, I don't view my macbook pro from nearly as close as my phone. So the difference in dpi would be substantial. However, I went from an iP4 to an HTC Surround and didn't really notice the difference in pixel density. Probably because the interface of WP7 is based in black instead of white, but still. There's many people who would notice a difference and not be able to go back, but theres probably also lots who think they wouldnt be able to (like I did) but actually not notice.

Also, I wouldn't want a 4". Every 4" seems just a little too big to me. Personally, I find 3.8" to be the sweet spot. Noticeably bigger than 3.5", but also not noticeably oversized for a phone. The perfect balance.

I have to agree with this. Apple has drawn a line in the sand with this new display and I don't think they're going to change resolution again for anything. They could bump up the screen size to, say, 3.8" and keep a "retina" tolerance though. Me thinks 4" would be pushing it though.

Having used a 4-inch phone I don't like the size one bit. I'd stick with my 3.5" screen.
This statement requires explanation. Was it a crappy 4"? Was the extra .5" more than you could handle? What?

Once Apple includes a bigger screen, all the fanboys will praise it.
Damn straight they will.

Bigger screen with reduced dpi? Hell naw! I love my retina display.
Hardly lol :D why would we want a less dense screen
But if Apple could go to 3.8" and the human eye could not tell the difference (as it would still technically qualify as "retina") would you go for it then?

Everything on the screen would look stretched though, right?

Not at all. It would a proportional increase. Nothing would look elongated or stretched out. And none of the apps would need to be updated since they are programmed for the resolution, not the screen size. It's just the iPhone would be as wide as the 3GS was.

It's a no brainer to want a 4" screen if the device size and resolution can stay the same.

As for S-AMOLED, I've been using a Nexus S, and its simply incredible. Still cant get over how insane the black levels are.. anything black on the screen blends right into the bezel.

I prefer the 3.8" which should keep things nicely under the "Retina" name with 300DPI or so. 4" is just slightly ungainly for current iPhone users in my opinion.

Interesting point you make about the black level. Black level right now is the biggest visual strength of the SAMOLED and when you look at Nexus One and Nexus S' Android, there are a ton of black space used throughout the UI elements. I think it's partially because an AMOLED screen gulps a lot more electricity with whites and it shows off the excellent black level. Thus it's an interesting case of the hardware determining the UI design to an extent. If the current iOS used an AMOLED screen, the benefit of the black level would've been somewhat less obviously simply because there are less black space in the GUI.

I've got a Samsung Vibrant ( I ****ing HATE it. Worst purchase ever made.) and I far prefer the iPhone 4 Retina display. Super AMOLED is incredibly overrated. At first there's a little bit of a wow factor, then you realize....well, no, this isn't actually that great. Black is black. Cool. They managed to make me not notice the black screen? That's a big accomplishment...how? The screen is perfect the way it is. And i like a little bit of bezel, thank you. Same concept as the iPad. Less accidental touching.

I proudly voted no, and here I am posting. Someone looks like an idiot.

Nope. The current screen dimensions are just fine to me. The surface area gained by 4" is miniscule.

No.

I already accidentally hit the edges of the screen sometimes. The bezel is as thin as it can be right now. Make it any thinner and the iPhone would be downright impossible to use one-handed.

That's an improvement?

LOL... S-AMOLED is overrated? Sure, just as overrated as a "retina" display.

I voted no because:
A. I dont like the mock up of the size in OP's post. While I wouldn't mind a larger display, I don't want a wider phone. I would rather that Apple keep the physical dimension of the phone and implement the larger display by changing the aspect ratio. This way the phone could retain the same DPI and screen width of 640, but extend the height to 1120. Legacy apps would simply get a black boarder at the top and bottom, but otherwise look the same.

B. I don't like the current Super AMOLED screens. Sure the black levels are nice (they make a slick alarm clock), but the colors don't look right to me and areas of solid color don't seem as 'smooth'. I understand that this is related to the shared subpixels, but until I see an AMOLED perform in these areas as well as the iPhone I will continue to support IPS. For the record, the only Super AMOLED screens I have used have been on Galaxy S phones.

C. See A. For the sake of compatibility and retaining the current physical size, I'd favor 1120x640 at 326 DPI over a stretched 960x640 at 290 DPI. The main issue I see would be compatibility with upscaling apps to iPads. However, current iPhone apps run on the iPad in the older 480x320, so there is no reason these couldn't continue to run in the older aspect ratio on iPads.

What's with all the stupid people voting no?

Bad mistake in making a a poll, there's a lot of clueless people voting.

Are you serious?
I'm both clueless and stupid because I voted no?

I wouldn't mind a 4" screen, but I am perfectly happy with my 3.5. I don't need or even want bigger, its the perfect size.

I am not a fan of AMOLED at all, I'm 100X happier with the current screen over any AMOLED i've seen.

We are all entitled to our opinions, but being disrespectful because of a different opinion isn't cool at all.

I personally voted no because SAMOLED sucks up battery like a vacuum when displaying in black and white. I do a lot of reading a lot my apps i use have white/black colors prominently in them so it wouldn't be optimal for me. I would however love a 4" pixel Qi screen with same resoulation or even a 3.5"

I am honestly A Ok with the 3.5 inch screen. For a guy I have smaller hands and using my iPod touch's screen and friends iPhones with one hand works great. I tried a Droid X and an EVO I couldn't do it one handed.

Sure, why not.

As long as it isn't bigger than the current iPhone and doesn't use Samsungs crappy Pentile matrix Super AMOLED.

I've decided I want a larger screen, and 4" is the perfect size.

I think 3.5 is fine for most things, but for using GPS and playing games I'd like a slightly larger screen..

If using a 4 inch screen turns the iphone into those giant android phones than NO.

If apple can retain the physical dimension with say a 3.7 inch, then i'll be all for it. But will that 0.2 inch make much of a difference?

Basically the iphone 4 is the perfect size for me, oh and that mock up doesn't look that great to me. Looks uncomfortable to use.

Keep the same physical size

Here is quick mockup I made showing a 4" screen at the same 326 DPI, but with an increased height of 1120x640 instead of a stretched 960x640 at 290 DPI. This maintains DPI and current app compatibility while not increasing the size of the iPhone at all.
