I won't waste money on a watch that costs more than $30. And I never have.

Respectfully, folks "waste" money on other things...I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs and I know folks who have blown a lot more on those than I have on watches.

Fine watchmaking is a true art form. It's not something that interests everyone, but I think it's a bit dismissive to classify buying high end watches as "wasting" money.

Is your watch running?
Better go catch it!

Too much work...

That's the nice thing about Apple devices... I can kill them in their tracks by remote control.

Maybe someday I'll go for a walk and stumble on that Apple Watch somewhere. That's if I can ever get off this d@^^n couch ;)

Mmmmm... Nachos :D

Candidly, @bunnspecial, you don't have to justify how you choose to spend your discretionary income to anyone. All that matters is that you love - and collect - enjoy, and appreciate fine timepieces

To those who say it is a waste (of money), well, there are things that hold no interest for me; however, - I don't condemn those who do find them of interest. Each to their own.

I mostly wear a Casio Shock watch, for swimming and casual attire.

I tend to wear a watch daily, at least during the week. As some others have said I feel "naked" without it.

My daily beater is a Movado Series 800 chronograph. Not sure if that exactly constitutes "high end" in the grand scheme of things (~1000$). I've had it for probably 3 years now. I'm not typically a fan of Movado I happen to like the Series 800 line.

I also have a Rolex GMT Master II, blue/red front that I seldom wear (it was a gift). It seems to casual for many occasions and the klutz that I am will inevitably ruin it swing my arm through doorways and such.

I lastly have a TAG I got from my grand parents for my bar mitsvah. I don't typically wear that as its design is a bit dated these days and holds some sentimental value.

yes, an automatic swiss made watch... not going to wear any cheap dressmakers watches - they know how to make clothes but nothing about watches.

an automatic movement is a piece of technology which is interesting and valued.

yeah, that makes mech/automatic movements a mix of art and technology - every pieces and jewels have their own purpose.

That video was a pleasure to watch.

I'll also add that the Breitling owner got off VERY lucky with only some keyless works and general rust clean-up needed. The plates are generally brass/german silver and so any "rust" on them really has "washed" from the steel parts.

I've taken apart watches where pivots literally crumbled when I spread the plates.

I'm really not a wristwatch guy, but I've been known to dabble a bit in older American WWs(esp. Illinois and Hamilton). Older watches are NOT known for their water resistance, and I've had more than a few where the keyless works looked similar to the ones shown here. This can happen from something as simple as getting too much water on the watch when washing your hands. In fact, when I wear older watches I often wear the much-hated Speidel bands on them so that I can push the watch up my wrist before getting my hands wet.

Fortunately, I have a good stock of keyless works parts(and really most parts) for the common Hamilton calibers, but I'm often at the mercy of others for Illinois wristwatch material.

By the way, I wish that watch companies still produced material catalogs like this beautiful hard bound volume from Illinois(I'm an horological bibliophile as well as a watch ephemera collector-this kind of stuff gets me excited)

I wear a watch during my working hours during week just so that I can keep up with the time. I have a Citizen Eco-drive ladies watch. and few Sieko watches too. But HG watch is the Rolex Datejust 36mm two tone with the oyster bracelet with the fluted bezel with the champagne fail with the Roman numerals.:D My second HG watch is the Cartier Tank francaise two tone watch in eithe the medium size or the large size with the date.

Still a relatively low number of votes, but a pattern has emerged, with high end traditional watches and the WATCH splitting nearly half the total @ 24.5% each. Another 13.2% typically wear a moderately priced timepiece. Obviously folks here are prepared to spend quite a bit on a watch, or watches.

Non watch wearers are the 3rd largest group @ 17%. Occasional wearers account for 9.4%, as do those who usually wear a cheap watch. Perhaps unsurprisingly there has been just one non Apple smart watch wearer so far.

An interesting range of responses, with several feeling undressed without a watch. I felt the same many years ago, before I gave up wearing one.

Another saying that carrying a smart phone has negated the need to wear a watch…… I still don't have a smart phone, and am unlikely to ever own one. I do own a several years old $20 Nokia, but seldom carry it….. I only got it because my apartment doesn't have a phone line. The time is available from various sources, but only occasionally serve as reference points as I go about my day. Living near a forest covered hill, I wake up to the dawn chorus and other events kind of flow on from that.

cant vote when using tapatalk.. i dont know how many others use tapatalk too, but just saying....

Displaying ignorance I know, but what's tapatalk? And how can a poll be made tapatalk friendly?

as it was said on the above (ios, android and it has win application too), you can read forums quickly and easy-way using tapatalk app. unfortunately it doesnt support polls. it has been asked for a long time and even promised that it will come, but it hasnt.

i personally dont browse forums via net. i "only" use tapatalk.
