Always wear. If it gets nasty I remove and wash under warm water. The SBSS with the Apple leather loop looks like new. I put the same band that I have been wearing a year on my new AW4. I had bought another but after looking at my year old band, it still looked like new.

I wear mine all the time. I'm a custodian for a school district so I'm pretty rough on it. I did start using a bumper after I hit the corner on a steel pole and cracked the screen. Thank God for Apple Care. During the summers I'm moving lots of furniture and stripping and waxing floors plus lots of grounds work trimming, mowing, spraying weed killer, pressure washing and all sorts of rough stuff. Watch is working perfect. I have the series 2 Nike Edition. If you're worried put on a screen protector and bumper case and your watch will be well protected. Mine is currently in for repair for force touch issue and I really miss it. I am forced to go back to my Polar M400 until my AW come back. I never realized how much I depend on it until it's gone.

There’s another thread here in which OP got a HUGE scratch, bent the case and dislodged the screen on his/her brand new SS Apple Watch doing yard work.

I wouldn’t...

There's an old saying about generals always fighting the last war. Yeah, bad things can happen, but I seriously doubt yard work in particular has some sort of magic mojo that makes damage while doing that more likely than, say, whacking your arm on a door frame as you rush past, or slipping and falling on an icy sidewalk.

For what its worth, though the stainless case on my first generation Watch took some scratches and gouges over the years, day-to-day use/abuse never scratched the surface of the sapphire crystal. The only thing I'm careful about is exposure to water.

As far as I'm concerned, $400 is not a premium watch. It's a tool that's meant to be worn and used, not a piece of heirloom jewelry. And if I'm going to close my rings every day, I'm not going to take it off for the most vigorous workout of the week.

I wear mine doing yard work, and have done since I got my original S0 on the first day. Never had an issue, no scratches, dents or anything else.

It's a watch, not a china teacup.

Yup. I wear my watch at work, digging underground and repairing water main breaks as well. Watch dives deep into sandy muddy water a lot. Has a few scratches, but nothing horrible.

The speckling you see is just lint/dust that gathered on the watch before I took the pic. The side by side, my series 2 is the one on the left

my release series 0 has no scratches at all on it's face at all. "funny" thing is the pink one i bought a few months later that i never wore for yard work (i used it as my "good" or "work" watch and wore the black one for working out, housework, etc.) but it's the pink one that somehow got a scratch/scrape area on it.....
[doublepost=1538739793][/doublepost]
I do often change bands to a dark or old one to keep the standard pink band clean. My old one got dirty after awhile so I use it now for yard work and keep the new band for nicer occasions.

i change my band out, too if it happens to have one of my pink or lighter ones on... usually to it's original black one or the neon green.

So yeah, the watch is meant to be worn, but do you really wear this premium device when doing things like yard work, etc, etc?

I am thinking of going AW from Fitbit and I wear my Fitbit all the time. I guess it's just hard (scary) to think of me wearing this $400 device outside, doing things like yard work and the like...
I dont wear it if I'm doing detail work with my hands but most things are fine. Installing things where I have to squeeze my hands into tight spaces nope. I won't wear it working on my car, installing stereo equipment or making art. I scratched my first gen once doing something like that so now I take off my new one when I have to do stuff like that. The majority of things is fine.

I will tell you it's only been 2 days since I sent my AW off for repair and I never realized how much I depend on it. I did get notification that they are replacing my watch so what would be super cool is if they didn't have and series 2 watches and gave me a series 3 instead. Won't happen but it would be cool

I do. If I’m doing something like working on my car I take it off, but that’s about it. I’ve owned a series 0,2,3,& now 4 and rarely take it off when awake. They’ve all been pretty much unscathed and I’ve been able to sell all of them when upgrading. It’s not worth the stress to worry about it. I’ve previously been a “watch guy” and have owned a lot of high end watches like Breitling, Sinn, Omega, Bell & Ross, etc...I did buy a spiegen tough armor case with the series 0 but have went naked ever since.

I wasn’t able to sell my Stainless Series 2 for a decent price (and it was in great shape), so I’ll be swapping my Series 4 out with that for yard work from now on and any swimming I do (my Series 2 NEVER touched water).

The only time I don’t wear mine is at night when it’s in its charger, or when I’m in the shower. In the shower the band gets wet and feels yuckie until it drys. I use the seashell band so it takes a while to dry.

I have an Apple watch on 24/7 except when showering. I have two so when one needs charging, I put on the other. When I mow my lawn, I get about 20 minutes exercise credit for it. I have never damaged a watch in two years.

I have 2 watches. My Stainless Steel is the one I wear at work and out which I take better care of. My aluminum Sport is for workouts and yard work. Not too worried about the aluminum one getting banged up.

I know what thread you’re referring to (See below), and that’s false, the casing was never bent, as that would be extremely difficult to do. I believe that member also came in contact with a rock against the casing causing the scratch.

I wanted to ask you a durability question since I know you've had the SB for several years.

If you were to be playing tackle football or ultimate frisbee outside where you may have to dive or fall to the ground, would you feel anxious about either the impact damaging the watch, or maybe a pebble or smaller rock scratching it up or cracking the screen by chance (assuming the field is not turf)? Would that situation be significant enough to warrant you deciding to take it off during the activity instead of keeping it on?

For me, if I was playing a physical sport like football, I would take the watch off. Strictly because of the impact with the ground or something else that could cause damage. But for almost everything else, I wear the Apple Watch. I am a heavy weight lifter in the gym, and I do remove the watch when I weight lift, because of the tendency to hit the watch on machines or weights in general. Otherwise, I have no concerns with the space black durability with the sapphire or DLC.

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking for platform movements, clean press, etc that it should be removed but good to know you also keep it off while using machines as well. I was thinking it would be beneficial to have on as much as possible to track calories burned and heart rate/data, but I suppose I could keep it on for 2-3 complete workouts and then just remove it going forward once I know the gist of my data from various activities.

I wear my apple watch all the time - as has previously been said, I want credit for all the movement. Plus, the feature I have been waiting for - podcasts on the watch, now means no phone is necessary - that made me want to wear it even more while doing yardwork. It's a great device for that usage.

I've worn my Series 0 44mm SS from launch doing yard work. I just wore a little clear bumper on it, and later on I bought an arm band. I've worn it installing a rock landscaping retaining wall, putting in new bushes, mowing, trimming, seeding, spraying, tree trimming, and while clearing brush and using my chainsaw. I also wore it while finishing my studio space in my basement, which involved a lot of sawing, nailing, screwing, insulation cutting, etc. It was always fine. The only time I ever damaged it was when it didn't have the bumper on and I accidentally banged it against the stainless steel handle on my refridgerator and put a hairline crack down the right side. So it's very possible to damage you just have to be careful. The gloves that I wear have a bigger cuff on them that party covers the watch and I think that might've helped. The full coverage bumper case is probably a safer bet, especially if you're kinda clumsy.

Now that I have a Series 4 44mm SS I haven't decided what I want to do yet. I did yard work right before my Watch arrived, so I haven't had to do it yet. The problem is I don't have a case yet. I'd like to get the kind of case for doing manual labor that has the bumper with a top part that wraps over the whole thing, but the few I've seen on Amazon don't have reviews yet. One that has some reviews and seems like it's from a reputable maker is out of stock and had some mixed reviews like they didn't get the fit quite right so I bet they're fixing it now and will be selling the updated version soon. So I'm waiting for that one to come back in stock. But I'm also thinking about wearing my Series 0 for yard work. But I'd like to retire that to a display case with my original iPhone and iPad. Also, I didn't end up being much of a fan of the arm band and it barely fit and would slip down on my bigger arms. It was also more of a pain to use and I'm not sure if the exercise data or heart rate was as accurate when placed that high up.

For example, today I was training biceps and triceps for my bodybuilding routine at the gym, and I was using two 20 pound dumbbells for an ‘overhead French press’ high rep range while lying on the bench, and if I would have been wearing my Apple Watch, the dumbbell Would have easily come in contact with the display from the way I was holding the dumbbell in position over my head, which is exactly why I would rather not take that chance of wearing the watch in my situation.

Also, I don’t care about necessarily having all the data collected in my situation, but others might for cardio and other work out tendencies.
