Maybe, just for more space for full length movies. I'm sure I could get some space bck if I just used smart playlists, instead of loading up every "just in case" album instead.

I wish it did myself, so I went out and bought a second iPhone. Now I can have music and music videos on one, and movies and music on the other. Plenty of space.

lol, are you serious? Could you buy a 3rd for me.

In all honesty, I don't think you fit the broad demographic of potential buyers. But, in all honesty, if the web, email, and calander options were good enough, I would still buy the unit with $400. For example, can you sync your iPhone calendar to something on the web?

I know a lot of people expect a lot of this, although it is by far the best thing out there. People like me are just looking at our current contracts, and thinking about what it would take for us to dump them and get an iPhone. When my contract is up, I will probably get one, or at least hold out for a larger memory model. Unless the iPhone tempts us enough...

16 would be awesome, but I'm good with the 8gb that mine has.

As it is, I have at least 1gb of memory left at all times, but if I had more memory I'd put more TV shows on it. ;)

8gb is fine though I would love 16 or more gigs. I keep mine as filled as possible and currently have less than 500 megs left. I guess Im just used to synching up my entire library to my 60gb 5th gen iPod.

well for me it's fine because I still have 5gb of free space, I just dont have that much music well actually i have like 500 cd's but they stay in my car and i dont feel like coverting them over to my ipod or iphone, and once I watch movies I delete them, i see no sense in keeping them on the phone.

I wish the iPhone was smarter and more flexible with its memory...

... I don't care to store 8GBs combined of music, photos, video, etc. But I'd very much so like to stop seeing that ridiculous note telling me my SMS inbox is full and that I need to delete messages (especially since we can't even delete single messages-- just entire "conversations").

Argh.

Um, stupid memory management aside, no, I have no issues w/ an 8GB iPhone. I've got barely anything on it. :D

since i updated ,my phone to 1.1.2 i dont get those SMS alert, My man and I have SMS convo that goes back to the day i bought my iPhone 7/24/07:D

At first I thought the 8 gigs would be enough since my music collection is only 4 gigs. But now I have discovered putting TV episodes on the iPhone to watch when I am out and about. Now I am pushing the 8 gig limit but it is not such a big deal. I just have to be better about re-syncing the iPhone to get the watched episodes off.

I think Apple might increase market share if they offered one with more storage. I know a few people who want one but need more space because they have HUGE music libraries and like to sync the entire thing to their MP3 device. The answer is not to carry an iPhone and an MP3 player. That is part of the point of the iPhone, to only carry once device.

The larger ones will come though. If there is one continuing truth with computers is that you always get more space for cheaper and smaller...........

iPhone 2 I am sure will have 16 and 32 gig options.

I have come up with a pretty easy loading scheme between my 5g 30gb iPod and my 8gb iPhone. Because I dont have to have everything with the iPhone I only sync a few playlists and I do alot more to the 30gb.

Most of my playlists are based on playcount (alot of top 100 lists by genre or overall and a few entire artist lists such as all my buckethead or all my system of a down). I than have a few manual playlists. Also because I have such a large collection I forget about some stuff so I have a 500 not played list that is randomly selected 500 tracks that have a playcount of 0 (when I burn through that I will increse to 1, etc). After all is said and done that loads about 22gb on the iPOD. I fill the rest with TV shows to watch at work. I listen to my 30gb at work and sometimes in the car but the car is becoming less and less.

So on the iPhone I dont need all that stuff so I load a few top 100 lists and the 100 newest tracks loaded into iTunes. That ends up filling about 5gigs and than I load 3 of the latest episodes of whatever TV show I want. Today it is the 3 episodes of the coverage of the WRC in Monte Carlo but it does change. I than have enough room to load in a movie which today is Full Metal Jacket.

it takes a little bit of playlist management but I get to know my music collection a bit more and usually have fresh stuff to listen to on the iPOD. But if all I have with me is the iPhone than I know I have my favorite tunes and its not bogged down with stuff that I like less.

I have not ran into the SMS limit issue but I do not use it all that much. Im sure if we get SMS msg than I will surely bump into it.

So it may not be the perfect system for everyone, but it works quite well for me.

That thought process never made sense to me. I have over 500gb of just music and would never think I needed it all with me. I guess to each their own but it just makes no sense to me.

I have 10 gigs of music right now and need about 1 gig for podcasts (between downloading and deleting). So the current iPhone is just short of what I need. Plus I've been on an 4G iPod Photo so haven't really begun downloading/renting video content from iTunes yet so I expect that to take up to 5 gig on and off.

So yes in short, definitely looking forward to higher capacity iPhones.

And this may be a stupid question cuz I haven't been following all the iPhone threads carefully. But is it possible to switch out the HD? I know the lay person can't do it, but say I buy an iPhone at 8gb right now. And 2 years from now when a 32gb drive is reduced to the same size, will I be able to pay Apple or other vendor to switch out the HD for me?

Which brings up an interesting question just how much memory does a TV show take up? Frankly Apple is starting to get some interesting SciFi on iTunes, enough so that I'm being tempted to go for a new device.

In case you are wondering I hear FarScape is coming to iTunes. Unfortunately I've only seen a few episodes and frankly was kinda getting into it. It certainly would be the sort of thing that would be worth downloading.

i wish it had more ram. the 8 gb is plenty of storage for me, but i'm sure the iphone would crash less often if it had more memory and, as devilot mentioned, better memory management.

i was thinking the same thing when i saw the title for this thread. ram = memory, flash = storage. surely apple could fit in 512mb or more of ram in the next version. ram is dirt cheap nowadays. it would be nice if webpages would stay loaded when you have several open. this is especially annoying when on edge and you have to reload everything again. i guess 3g would fix that gripe in v2.

to the OP: if you waited this long to get an iphone, and if i were you, i would just wait for v2. i waited since fall 2005 when i bought the crappy rokr with "itunes" (hah) for the iphone when the rumors were just starting to float of an iphone type device possibility. i didn't even own an ipod and i impatiently waited 2 1/2 years for the thing, saving my money.

ironically, not long after buying my dell inspiron (POS) that same fall i decided to start saving for a macbook pro, which was unveiled on the same day that my laptop arrived. if i had known they would switch to intel i probably would have given them a shot, but i was more of a pc guy back then who built my own systems. now i have my pennies saved up and am waiting for the new mbp. patience!! or impatience...whatever you prefer. wait for v2, which will most likely come in 16/32gb flavors.
