i thoroughly enjoy being at Starbucks using my jailbroken iPad 3 with BTC Mouse from Cydia, with the Logitech Ultrathin BT Keyboard and Logitech BT Mouse. cute girls come up to me all of the time and ask me how i am able to use a mouse with the iPad. they ask to give it a test drive and i show them how functional the iPad could be with the ability to activate a cursor.

i've been approached probably a dozen times at this point, and got 4 phone numbers since i bought it on October 3. it's obvious when they are interested because after i show them the BTC Mouse app they will either still be sitting next to me at the bar table or will still be seated at my table. the ones who were just interested in the BTC Mouse app get up and leave.

so to answer the question, do i feel like a douche using an iPad? nope. i feel clever that i give girls an interesting reason to approach me so they feel like they aren't being too forward and they are also learning how to jailbreak the iPad.

:D
Okay, I take it back...THIS IS THE HEIGHT of Douchness! This guy can't be serious? This has to be a joke...haha, you got me!!

All due respect...this is the height of douchery.

You go to a bar and grill to get some grub and throw down some suds. Gotta love the douche who thinks they are so important that they can't stop to eat and drink!!

Hey Brah, hell yeah, suds ~n~ grub!

:D

Seriously, I do get you, I don't lug in a tablet into a bar/grill/restaurant if I'm out with my wife/family, for fun, etc.

It was a business lunch with my partners and specifically (as I indicated), I used it to document some reqs for our next development phase.

The point was: School? Work? You need it, you take it, you don't sweat anybody else.

If you're taking pictures with one in public, yeah, you should feel like one. If you can't go to dinner and now whip out any device and start texting, browsing etc you should feel like one.

Nobody cares what you're doing. I'm sitting on the floor with my iPad typing this in a hallway waiting for my lecture to start as people walk by me. Not one of them in the past minute has given me a glance. People don't pay as much attention to others in public as you might think.

That's a huge thing with me and the wife (that's what she said...).

When we go out, we go out to be with/talk with each other, no phones or anything. We constantly are amazed at other couples we see who spend entire meals with their faces in a phone and don't say a word to each other.

I'm about as "wired" as anybody you'll meet, but nothing beats real, personal time with somebody you totally dig on. :D

Just buy a proper digital camera and not feel silly at all.....Heck a decent point and shoot digi cam will even be cheaper...Just admit that you needed some kinda excuse to buy the latest igadget:p

Well that too.

I know I can buy one, just haven't. If I really need one I usually borrow my mom's that she literally NEVER uses.

I would feel more stupid if I had an iPhone 5 and a $2000 a year contract. The iPad I have costs $320 refurb from the Apple store. I don't see that as expensive especially since I use it quite a bit every single day. Also I didn't pay for my iPad, I won it in a contest. I would feel a bit stupid using it to take a picture though in public.

I would imagine the iPhone to be more pickpocket able as its smaller and has much more resale value on the second hand market. People also leave them on tables when they are eating, put them in open pockets or a back pocket where they can be easily grabbed or they are just quite careless with a device that is small, easily stolen and costs hundreds if you need an off contract replacement, not to mention all the personal info on it.

a joke? jailbreak your iPad, get a mouse, and head to your local Starbucks. when you get back, fill us in on how it went for you

as they say with anything though, "results may vary"

What girls are those?

girls in their mid 20's. seeing how i am in my late 20's and don't have a ring on my finger, they are eager to bite at any reason to flirt

Some people have actual work to do. Man you guys in here and your judgmental attitudes. Sometimes I feel like I'm back in high school when reading the forums.

sorry but that entire post sounded like it came from a douche.

I recently went down to vacation in Aruba, and was amazed that almost everyone on the beach had an iPad. I know it's a completely different demographic than college students, and I'm many years past being a college student but I'm glad I brought mine because I felt I would have stood out if I didn't have one. lol!

Not really, the future needs to happen now, iPads and tablets need to be used more than they are. Restaurants, business, airlines could all save tons of money if they deployed iPads.

why are you apologizing? i don't care what names people fling at each other on here. after all, this is just an internet forum.

it's not like i purposefully set out to use my jailbroken iPad + BT mouse to talk to cute girls in starbucks, it happened by accident. then it happened again and again, so i put two and two together and realized that using a mouse with an iPad and keyboard dock case attracts attention. i left out how lots of guys approached me too to ask me how i got it to work as well, but that doesn't make for a very interesting story now does it?

I would take my iPad almost everywhere I went if I didn't feel like such a jerk for doing that. Every time I whip it out in public I feel like I'm making people believe that I'm just showing it off to brag that "I have an iPad." What's worse is that I'm in college so the student to iPad ratio is probably around 2000/1. Not good. I would love to be in the library reading a book off of it, but I just feel like an ass. Does this happen to anyone else?

Dude, you have been watching too many commercials. The iPad is not a status symbol, it's a computer that Apple has sold millions of copies of. Anyone who really wants one can buy one. Your friends don't care.

I don't know where you go to school but it doesn't sound right to me. Have you seen the number of people in air ports with Ipads, kindles and nooks. I think no on feels like you do. heck I was jealous they had them all standing in customs lines reading. Nice covers. Happy as a clam. The wait was nothing when you have an ipad.

the first week I got mine but after that I noticed everyone has one. Even a lot of grandparents received them from their kids as an easy way to stay connected.

I'm confused, why did you quote me in that?

I'm learning where to use the reply buttons. i'm new so It was not intentional. I will take it off. Sorry to confuse you.

Almost makes me feel college kids are backwards thinking.

iPads are all over meeting rooms across corporate America. Anyone who thinks its uppity to have one at this point is just uncomfortable with technology.

Consider - people walk into meetings (and probably college class) with $200 shoes, a $500 watch, and a $120 haircut - but think that a $500 tool that helps get the job done is "uppity"? The shoes / haircut and watch are what's uppity, and if you got those and no iPad (or similar tool) you're just obsolete and will soon make the list for cost reduction.

Figure out how to make the iPad work for you and forget those people.
