Got another (s)Tinker. Went awat a couple of days and gotten back it's almost finished :)
Furthermore I am getting a lot of small WU's that are only worth 11 to 18 points. I could be doing easily 180 points per day, but know I only have about 150 if I am lucky...

Let's take it easy on Kyle?, folks.

It would do everyone good to try to label threads better, DC forum included. Personally, I think "Tinker" in the title is indicative enough for people to know whether or not the thread applies to their DC project. So, let's leave the moderation to those who've been appointed to the task. ;)

I cry for your loss. :p

You could always trade machines with me and I would accept your terrible burden.

Trust me, I wasn't being mean. I held back quite a bit, as usual. :D

Like I said, all you need to look at is the 12th line or so that says "Arguments".

Your lists -advmethods, so you're fine. :)

Thank you Rower_CPU. ;) So if I understand correctly then, my programing is already set so that I will get a majority of Gromac WU's.

It's all right, folks. I only posted this here because this thread happened to be another that I clicked on from the main page and found to be about folding. Obviously there are many vague titles out there, but folding happens to be a common one since there are many threads about it. It's not really a mac topic. I'm only asking this as a courtesy. You might try some in your responses. This isn't a high school forum.

This isn't your fault and it's not mine. I visit through the front page because I don't have the time to visit the forums in depth, and the front page will group some unrelated topics. I tried folding before, but my ibook can't pull the load the way I use it. Work units have weird names, as do some computer programs and electronic devices and sometimes folding topics can sound like they are something else. This leads to confusion.

So maybe you don't want to bother to take the time to put a tag in the top of your title, something like fah, or f@h, or whatever. It's not that hard, but whatever. I can live with it. I'm not going to get upset about it if you don't want to. I was only asking as a favor, folks, not trying criticize or cause you to have a fit. Maybe this could be dealt with by the mods and admins anyway, by adding a heading on the main page. Whatever.

I think my DP 2GHZ G5 has them because my mac and PC's are really pumping out units like crazy and I am only at about 100 ppd (although a few units got lost :() when I should be at about 200... maybe in a few hours I will get a 142 point boost :)

Yippie, I just sent in 2 71 point tinkers so I think I am going to be rising about 150 ppd now :)

Easter Sunday 12:33 est I just got hamered with a Tinker (p638 70.9 points though). I'm gonna watch this one......
first time I quoted myself

but it's now 10:15pm Monday... almost 34 hours and 50 frames done 350 to go,,, Tinker, Tinker, Tinker...reminds me of an Elf sitting on a rock with a little hammer just lazily tink, tink, tink, tink........

tinkers are bad for stats, not the project...i don't see what the big deal is

a few gromacs over tinkers by proactive members isnt going to equal out to big changes over the long term

if they keep giving tinkers, then keep folding tinkers and forget about it

find something else to bitch about

half of my processsors (3/6) are clogged by (s)tinkers.
boy are they slow.

p.s. so much for -advmethods
p.p.s. what does -forceasm do?

The -forceasm flag tells the process to ignore any crashes and continue to use optimisations.

-advmethods can't guarantee Gromacs-only units - it just sets the preference. If Stanford wants people folding Tinkers, then that's what people fold. Period.

Here's a list of all the switches and their purposes:

Ok, that's fine if you're running the cl client, but how do you ad switches when using the graphical client? I'm using XP computers for most of my folding, and prefer the graphical client as it just sits in the taskbar, annonymous and semi-hidden. I'd still like to be able to set the switches how I want. Can that be done via the command prompt? Is so, how?

u can make a shortcut to the app, right-click on the shortcut, and after the path in "" put your switches

"C:\Documents and Settings\user\Desktop\Folding blah blah" -advmethods

i'm sure there's another way to do this....this way u can put the shortcut in the startup folder

well, i finally got through that 400 frame monster, and now i've gotten 2 copies of p212_villinURE212 for 160 points a piece!

The dual 1.8 is ripping right through them...

Ah yes, it works now. So simple when you know how
Thanks very much.

I've got one p212, so far, on my dual 800. However, I think the ripping is going the opposite way of your experience. :D

oh, i bet...sorry to hear it...

if it makes you feel better, my other folder (a B&W G3) i still working on its first WU...Since i started my new user name on monday morning, I've gotten 480 pts from the G5 and 0 from the G3...

I hope it doesn't run out of time before it finishes a WU!!!

Poor little thing.

Also got a P212, and on my dual 1.8 it only takes 6 minutes per %, and that for 160 points, give me more of those babies!!!!!

Mine is taking about 60 minutes per percent--about the same. :D I guess I should stop using the machine for several days because that will help it.

Can anyone tell me what's happening with this? It started at 12:33 and it's now 5:10 from what I see 0 out of 400 frames are completed. or does the "frames (5)" actually mean there are 5 finished?

Normally the (5) means that five are indeed finished. Unfortunately, I don't know much about InCrease (other than it magically appeared on my desktop after a 10.3 upgrade procedure  ) so I don't know what they are showing. If you look at the raw log, you'll be able to tell.

(in terminal)

cd Library/Folding@home
cat FAHlog.txt

(lots of text swirls by, go back up to find out what's going on)

I finally got another (s)Tinker and it was taking 38 minutes per frame (not percent) on my dual G4/800. I just moved it over to the G3/800 to improve the speed, since it was going to finish on May 10th. If it's like previous (s)Tinkers, it will process about 7 percent faster on the G3.

It's processing at 33 minutes per frame on the G3 and the Gromacs WU that was on the G3 is taking 18 minutes vs. 28 minutes. It's fast enough to pay for the time spent moving things.

Well, that was just one %. Other parts took a whole lot longer, so it did it in about one and a half day, still not bad :D

Well, I've got two p638 WUs now and I'm all out of G3s. It's certainly good to be able to shove the one over there to save some time. When the one finishes on the G3, I suppose I'll move things around to speed the remainded of the other p638. That's only going to work if I don't get another p638 on the G3. :D The burden of doing the right thing, every time. :D
