Quick Reply is worth the update all by itself. What exactly was everyone disappointed about it expecting?

iOS 8 is really amazing but it may not be apparent yet if you're not a developer using the new API's. Externally, there are few things to get excited about -- quick reply and some enhancements in Messages, actionable notifications, etc. but it's not like the huge visual jump we had in iOS 7.

Once you see the new APIs in action though, which for most people will be once iOS 8 is public and they hit the App Store, you'll see some really different things!

A great example is the 1Password beta I'm on which uses the 5S sensor for authentication in a Safari extension. Other apps I'm running allow manual control of the camera and direct plug-in of filters and editing tools directly into the Camera app.

In many ways, this seems like the biggest change Apple's ever given devs, allowing access to previously walled off parts of the system, so "Stay Tuned!" because you're only currently seeing part of what the iOS 8 experience will be.

I'm going to honest. I'm really not quite sure how you can say this.

We've been complaining at Apple for years of the lack of features that iOS has compared to Android, in iOS 8, Apple has added (for me at least) all of the features requested.

Interactive Notifications, QuickType, 3rd party widgets and keyboards and heavy app integration.

Not only that but we have Handoff, I mean, for goodness sake we can now answer TELEPHONE CALLS from our Mac!

I could go on but that's just a brief respond.
