I haven't went out for Black Friday deals in probably 15 years or more.

I wouldn't say I hate it, but the best deals are the door busters that you have to wait in line. Waiting in line to save some money isn't worth it to me because I am using my personal time to do it.

Also, I find that the best non-door buster deals are usually a few weeks after Black Friday.

Hate it.
However I will admit being lucky twice.
Last time my refrigerator broke it was on thanksgiving day, so the next day I bought a $700 refrigerator for $150 or so.
The following year, similar thing with similar timing, except that it was my dryer which actually was in flames. So I got a great deal.
Other than that, I despise it.

I mean I don't hate it because I don't really partake in it. Can't hate something that doesn't really affect me..... That being said the one thing I dislike about it is the way the stores have been starting earlier and earlier..... it's gotten to the point where sales start at 5pm on thanksgiving day, its messed up that you are pulling people away from their families to go shop and you are having employees come in on thanksgiving. There's just something wrong and greedy about that.... But hey as long as people are showing up then they have a reason to do it, so I'm not sure who's really to blame.

So, "I hate it, except when it benefits me"? (; Just ribbing you.

~It's the most wonderful time of the year~

I think of it like hanging out at a Denny's after hours and getting into brawls. It's like The Walking Dead meets World War Z. It's like trying to emulate the '92 LA Riots but instead of looting it, you fight for it just to save a few bucks.

Stay away.

Dislike.

I remember once I was forced to shop on Black Friday because my mouse had died that morning and I needed a new one. I waited until the late evening when the pandemonium was over and then drove to the local Best Buy.

It was like a tornado had blown through the store. Trash was everywhere and product was on the floor instead of the shelves. Many shelves were empty, reminding me of those pictures of Russian grocery stores in the Soviet-era. The floors were dirty and were marked haphazardly with painter's tape in an effort to enforce directional lanes of travel.

The employees were haggard and had empty stares in their eyes. On a positive note, I could tell that they had bonded closely with each other due to the shared trauma.

I couldn't find the mouse so I asked the employee if they were somewhere else, like an end cap or something. He looked it up and said there were 6 still showing in stock, but it was likely that they were all stolen. He said lots of shoplifting occurs on Black Friday because there are too many people in the crowd to manage.

I'm not one for huge crowds, insane traffic, and bumper cars parking lots.

But I always check to see what deals are available online. Occasionally, there's an actual deal and not just a discount on something marked up right before the holidays.

I think it is one of the days where the absolute worst of humanity really shines brightly. South Park hit this one spot on

I hate it. Simply because in the UK we don't have Thanksgiving (obviously), but we do have Black Friday/Cyber Monday.
How does that work?

But then I'll be spending zero time in the shops like most weekends. Not much of a shopper. Neither is my wife.

What is your opinion on Black Friday ?
As far as an opportunity to get a deal, I like it. Last year I stood in line at Target after Thansgiving dinner to buy an iPad on sale. It was a great deal!

That said, no more of this getting up at 3am to stand outside the door of a Best Buy. Glad retailers are getting away from that aspect of it.

Black Friday is a retail opportunity! ;) I’m sure it’s adopted from the States where Thanksgiving is the start of the Christmas shopping season which it may also be in the UK despite no TDay there. It’s a bit amusing cause the name first reminded me of something like the Black Death. Online, I found this:

Many employers give their employees the day off as part of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Is that a reason to call it Black Friday?
But then...

According to this alternative explanation, Black Friday is the day when retailers finally begin to turn a profit for the year. In accounting terms, operating at a loss (losing money) is called being “in the red" because accountants traditionally used red ink to show negative amounts (losses).
