I have never owned an AppleTV, but was thinking about getting one and getting rid of cable I mostly only watch Netflix anyway hardly any news or live TV the only thing I would really miss is sports and I watch a lot of sports... are there any sports guys out there who only use AppleTV and how do you get by?

I've only been using an Apple TV and Netflix / Hulu Plus for a while now. However, I recently decided to try the DirecTV Now subscription and cancel Hulu Plus, so we'll see how well that works. The Apple TV came in the mail while I was out of town, so I just installed it a couple of nights ago, and so far everything seems to be working pretty nicely. I really like that the DirecTV Now app even has a guide for it. Here's the unboxing video:

A black Sharpie marker is a good idea when your address is visible on the package. Just saying, neighbor.

I need help with an issue I am having I have an Apple TV and sling will not work on itit works fine with my iPhone iPod iPad but doesn't work with AppleTV is anybody else having this issue help

Just cut the cable and have only Apple TV for watching. So far it's great. My father has direct tv with all of the premium channels so I just use his login info for the premium channels on the Apple TV.

Very good article in the business section of today's New York Times. Focuses on Hulu's upcoming streaming service but mentions other players such as Vue, DirecTv Now, etc.

They claim that the Hulu service to be released in the next few months will have the usual cable channels but also complete CBS lineup including NFL. Also will include a DVR. All for "less than $40 per month".

I cut the cord over a year ago, and just started running DirecTV Now on an AppleTV 4. The DirecTV App is by far the worst App I have ever used. They obviously rushed it out the door way before it was ready. Laggy, errors, crappy interface, just horrible. Otherwise I use a Tivo for over the air, and subscribe to Amazon Prime, Netflix, and HBO. All we need here. Hope they improve the App for DirecTV Now otherwise I will be ditching it real soon.

I have been using ATV to watch my video collection (via iTunes on a Mac) for many years and have never had cable. I did a 2 week trial of Foxtel for ATV a few months ago and was not at all impressed with the shows on offer so cancelled.
In Australia the main TV channels now have streaming apps for ATV and I am finding that they and Stan are all that I need.
Now waiting for an EyeTV app for ATV (due to be released this month) so I can watch free-to-air TV via ATV.

I am have been a cord cutter for couple of years. 2 ATV4s and a Roku3 for the three screens in my house. Netflix, Sling and other streams are what I watch mostly.

There are days when the DTV Now app works perfectly fine on our ATV's. Then there are days when it's absolutely too frustrating to deal with the all the bugs that we end up just firing up the Netflix or Hulu apps and watch something on there. I definitely agree that the DTV Now app was rushed out the door before it was ready for primetime.

PS Vue app is much more stable on ATV, but I'll probably stick it out with DTV Now as I'm locked in to the $35/month price for their 'go big' package. Plus, I can stream video via the app on my iPhone without it impacting my data allotment.

I recently just switched to a 200mbps / 10 HD "local channel" package which also includes DVR functionality for $79.99. What's interesting is that they also offer a triple play package for $99.99 which includes 140 channels, 100mbps and a landline(who makes landline calls anymore?). What's not included in that package are HD channels, VOD and DVR. Add those in and I'm back to square one as far as pricing goes.

Anyhow $79.99 + $25-$35(slingtv or directtv go) = Around $110ish which is sill cheaper than the $155 I was paying for previously which basically included everything in one package(HD channels, local channels, cloud dvr, VOD, live sports) plus a bunch of SD and misc channels I'll never watch.

Still seeing how good or bad the experience of this level of cord cutting is but for me personally as long as I can watch the live sports I watch I'm fine.

I apologize if this is an obvious question, but do I have to do anything specific for this function?

I'm an At&T (cell) customer, so is this just standard for any at&t user? Just stream & they automatically won't count it against your data allotment??

Thanks.

Last week when I launched the app on my phone, a message popped up informing me that I can stream DTV Now without counting against my data. So I believe it's basically automatic. You don't have to do anything on your AT&T account.

I wonder if this also works for us who grandfathered into the old unlimited data plans. Hey it slows down after 22gb's lol

What I read was that it will not add to the 22gb. But if you reach the 22gb with other things then DIRECTV Now will be impacted like everything else. Same for other plans as well.

I've noticed my comcast bill randomly increased. I may explore cancelling their service again.
That happened with mine as well. As soon as my two year deal is done in September, I'm cancelling my TV and just keeping internet service. I've done it before and can do it again.

The only thing I have watched on TV this past year has been the Bronco games.

I but whatever few TV shows I watch on iTunes and most movies I either get on other places or buy when they are $7.99 or less on iTunes.

After adjusting my xfinity service to mainly internet I currently am sampling the directtv go streaming service for "free"(already have an apple tv so selling the complimentary apple tv to cover the cost for 3 months). So far it's good enough to cover my live tv needs which is mainly sports(nba).

Will also be trying out sling tv since it can be used for single sign on and also sounds like DVR is coming sooner than later.

LOL also trying out Hulu plus which will fill in, sort of, for the lack of DVR on the streaming services.

Either way still cheaper than what I was previously paying for the tv service with xfinity.

I never paid for a DVR on Comcast because they want so much more money extra per month and I only paid for one box. I used to have DirecTV years ago but had to cancel because of the trees in my backyard growing so tall and I didn't want to pay to trim them. I wouldn't mind giving the streaming service a try once I cancel my Comcast TV service.

The crazy part about my new deal with comcast is that although it includes DVR and HD channels it only includes 10+ channels that have shows I most likely will not be DVRing.
