I went with the antiglare option, but only because the level of glossy on the macbook pro was too high for me.

The only glossy computer I've ever had was the original macbook air. I thought it was perfect... it wasn't glossy enough to cause me problems. The newer machines seem to be excessively glossy.

I can tell you that the decision differs based upon each user. I used a PowerBook G4 for five years with the matte screen. I loved it until I purchased my glossy MBP and realized the vibrant color I was missing. I do not work in bright conditions and glare is never a problem for me with the glossy display. With that said, I would be happy with either display today as I have owned both.

To me, it seems hard to believe that they even sell any of the glossy screens in the apple stores. Everything is so white and brightly lit in the store that I couldn't even stand to look at the glossy screens. I'm really looking forward to getting my 15" matte MBP.

No regrets whatsoever. Both of my MBP's are matte, and I like it that way as I don't need to worry about reflections.

As much as I prefer a matte screen to the standard glossy, Apple's new policy of requiring one to take the hi res screen in order to get a matte finish, at three times the old price, is pretty hard to take.

This is why if I decide to get matte, I will get a refurb of last year's 15" model.

Yeah, any idea why one can't buy a 1440 x 900 screen with the matte option? You could get matte at that resolution on April 12th. Does Apple just want fewer SKUs?

I believe that last year's models arrived in June, and the 15" model did not have a matte option, but then they added a matte option in August. I wonder if Apple will once again make the matte option available for the 15" normal resolution model in a few months.

I should have said that the option for a matte 15" non-high resolution screen was available April 12, 2010 for the C2D models and was gone on April 13th for the Core i5 and i7 ones. Hopefully a few months down the line they will add this option as not everyone who choses matte wants a high resolution display.

15-inch i7 high-res anti-glare since release day. Not a single regret in the world, in fact everytime i pick up my iPad it looks like a mirror to me. I am lovin' this computer, can't believe the performance. I am looking to upgrade the 4GB RAM to 8... best way???

I frankly would never take the matte, let alone pay more for it. For one, I think the silver bezel on mattes looks trashy. Two, I don't use my computer in the middle of my front yard at high noon, nor at night with a spotlight pointed directly at it...so reflection isn't really an issue.

I agree that reflections from the iPad are a pain in the pitooty. I don't know where those folks who say they aren't bothered by reflections because they don't use their glossy screen MBP or iPad outside are coming from. Fortunately, my MBP, which is my go to computer, has a matte screen and is virtually impervious to reflections. The iPad, though, reflects my recessed ceiling floodlights, which I have virtually everywhere I use the iPad, like a mirror. The display is stunning but I would gladly trade a bit of its snap for the ability to avoid reflections.

Looking at your signature you didn't have any other option.

I would like a matte option 13", but it seems Apple do not want to make one. Still my old Macbook (13" White with less than new macbook glossy screen) isn't struggling just yet.

I bought a matte i7 as I wanted to get it in store and the only high res one they do is the matte. Instantly regretted it though and took it back to order online and get glossy. It's just not designed for that silver bezel IMO. It annoys me that **** gets down the gaps of the screen on my old laptop and the glass fixes that problem. I wish I liked the matte cos I prefer to have something a bit different (I'll have to lazer etch it or something). It's always personal preference though.

I think apple should have given us more options. Anti-glare black bezel? Anti-glare standard resolution? Glossy silver bezel? I mean come on...

If those are the only two conditions that you think produce glare AND if you can't see the loss of shadow detail with the gloss display then I guess it's perfect for someone with lower visual standards such as yourself.

If the colour of the bezel is affecting your choice then choose which ever one you think looks prettier.

If you care about usability then matte, matte, matte.

People keep shouting anti glare black bezel...the only reason the black bezel looks good on the gloss screen is because it has the shiny glass over it! It would look SO tacky without the glass.

When I finally get my MBP, I'll be getting the glossy screen. I know that the matte screen has a lot of practical uses, but I greatly prefer the aesthetics of the glossy screen.

I agree with that, the Rev A Macbook Air was in fact my first glossy laptop and it's a great screen. But with the newer screens I'm practically looking at myself in a mirror.

I agree. A black matte bezel will look tacky and of course a glossy bezel will look out of place on a matte screen. Beauty is also in the eye of the beholder because I think the silver bezel looks nice.

That's also the other issue. People really have to look at the screen in person because these glossies are more glossy than in the past. A mirror is a good description for them.

au contrair, I believe I have higher visual standards, and I'm not about to diminish my picture with a veil over the pixels of my screen for the sake of a rare occurrence of glare. I guess matte is perfect for someone who has the inability to control the ambient light around them such as yourself.

...and yet you couldn't see the loss in shadow detail or pick up on the distorted colors on the gloss display?? lol Amazing, just amazing! Hey, seriously - enjoy your choice in display. The gloss has great color pop for movies & such. It has the same draw as a TV in the store with the "high impact" type of settings that draw your attention in a row of displays. It's just not very realistic. I'll take accuracy, thanks.

Gotta agree with Kadman here.

Throwing more fuel to the fire maybe :) ... It's similar to comparing a high end Panasonic Vierra Plasma big screen TV to a Sharp Aquos ... because at first glance the Aquos will grab your attention with 'black blacks', deep colors and you immediately think 'wow, I like that'...

But, going deeper and comparing the Aquos LCD to the Vierra Plasma, especially if you compare them side by side you'll learn the Plasma has a much better, true to life, easier on the eyes picture. A good TV salesperson should direct your attention to compare the two if you're TV shopping.

I say it's similar to this AG versus Glossy discussion. It's personal preference first and foremost ... you do need to see them side by side to really know and decide what's best for you.

I neither watch movies nor do I game on my MBP. It's used almost exclusively for work, and for me that's in the finance sector where I'm using spreadsheets and various Oracle applications. I've had both variations of MBP, and by far for my purposes the glossy version is easier to view, and easier over the day on my eyes. Sorry that you disagree with me, and that I'm not susceptible to replacing my opinion with your own, no matter how amusing you feel your attempt at witty sarcasm and insults. For my purposes, you're wrong, and I'll stick with my opinion thank you.
