I tried swype and I really don't get how this is better. I much prefer using my standard typing.
It is better because its faster. You just dont know how to use it.

That's the epitome of communism.
Those who say they don't like it, are those who've never spent the six minutes it takes to watch three 2 min videos on how it works. It's the most amazingly fun, fast, and easy input method yet.

yup, swype would be awesome on the iPhone. We can just turn it off if we dont like it...in my opinion it should please more people.
Who owns swype? If apple were to ever implement it (which they won't) it would have to be installed at the OS level.
I actually thought that was one if the stronger patents. Prior to the iPhone, touch screen devices struggled with how to avoid unintended activation. The most popular means at the time was physical lock switches. Apple had identified a long standing UI issue and patented an improved process.Ha, are you kidding? Not a chance. Apple sued HTC last year for some pretty ridiculous patent infringement, such as swiping a "pre-determined path" to unlock a touch-screen device (uhh wtf else are you supposed to do??), or something like that. I don't know how that played out, but you can be damn sure that if Apple copied an Android feature like that now, it would not go over well.
I had it with my old phone and I really didn't like it. I love the iPhone 4 keyboard a lot better. I type way faster and it's much better in my opinion.
and what old phone did you have that you failed to mention?
BTW the iPhone native keyboards biggest flaw is that it doesn't learn. Anyone that says they prefer it to other virtual keyboards simply haven't ventured to try other more intuitive keyboards. Welcome to 2007![]()

Apple had identified a long standing UI issue and patented an improved process. In hindsight this solition may seem obvious, but it was a significant change at the time.
Precisely!
It's the very basis ( unfortunately ) of Steve Jobs empire. Program the masses that he knows what's best for them, take away their freedom of choice, and charge them for "the privilege".
I find Swype simply brilliant.

it's amazingly fun, fast? LOL it's a ****in novelty feature and wears itself out after a while. it's much faster to type the regular way. this feature is more of "hey check this feature out on my phone, i have no friends you can try this out and be my friend"
i know how swype works, and i've used it. it's stupid.
yes, i thought it was cool and was amazed at first.
it's still faster to type than trace the words - fact
and i dont care if apple adds this feature.
edit: 1 more thing. the reason why i can see swype being successful on android is because the input keyboard isn't as great as the iPhone. i can't type as fast on android phones as i can on the iPhone.
