Exactly how long did you use swype? just wondering

anyways it might be faster for you to type using the iphone keyboard....but im sure a ton of people including the fastest typer in the world will disagree....but a ton will agree with you too

therefore an on off feature would be added to please everyone.

Adding swype would please the people who love it, and the people who dont care just wouldnt care for it (like I am towards hotspot right now)

simple as that.

i've used it for a few weeks. like i said, novelty feature.

and no one can give a reason why they love swype, they just keep saying they love it and it's the best, oh and... EVERYONE'S WRONG and dense, etc.

but, like i said, i dont care if they add it. i won't be using it simply because it's a slower method of input. and that's something that you can't even argue, because you can hit 1 key after another instantly, while swyping from letter to letter would have a significant delay.

but other than the fact that it would slow down my typing, i have a few other problems

- only use hand
- what if you don't know how to spell a word? swype will get confused

Really?

Where in that article does it say that she was using Swype?

If you knew anything about the Galaxy S you'd know it comes with Swype as a standard keyboard:
"On the keyboard front, the Galaxy S comes with Swype pre-installed and also has a Samsung-specific keyboard. The Samsung keyboard is more attractive and has a better layout, in our opinion, than the stock 2.1 keyboard. Swype is a nice inclusion, though its usefulness is a matter of taste."

The link is in the article even.

Just a message for anyone who thinks that ANY phone keyboard can be "cool" or "amazing" and is fixated on typing speeds and how fast they can send a text. You really don't get out enough. Seriously, there are many, many more important things out there and if a feature is that important to you then buy the phone with it. Don't waste your time posting about why apple don't include it in iOS.

I can see the new iOS 5 feature "magic input" now and all these naysayers will suddenly love it :)

Oh yeah, I can totally see that happening.

MMS, video calling, c&p, higher-res display, better camera sensor+flash, the list just goes on and on. The Apple apologists say that the missing features are unnecessary, then when Apple announces it with a fancy name suddenly it becomes a must-have feature.

'Smart Keyboard' anyone? ;)

Why not just create a Swype app that has a 'copy' button? It can't be that hard...

They probably don't want to invest all that money to develop an app and gamble whether or not Apple would allow it.

Also, even with the so call "multitasking" it's a pain to switch between programs just for typing. It would negate the speed gained in SWYPE for regular usage.

I recall Jobs addressing this before and basically poo-poo'd the notion that the iPhone could use this type of keyboard.

Of course apple also steadfastly stated that multitasking isn't needed for the phone, and yet they did just that.

I don't see the need for it, but that's just me.

Personally, I didn't like the swype keyboard, but I don't see why anyone would object to Apple including it in iOS 5 as an option for people who do like it. Do I think it will happen though? probably not

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8F190)

I don't understand the hype about Swype. I used Swype on an old ass winmo phone two years ago. It's 'cool' but that's about it.

Don't get me wrong, I love Apple and their products. But for some reason people can "say" they hate something, and then as soon as Apple does it and renames it, it then becomes the Jesus of all applications or features.

How can someone hate Swype? Its a normal keyboard with added features; and on top of that its OPTIONAL and can be turned off at any time?

That would be like someone hating the front facing camera when they NEVER "have" to use it if they don't want to. People say some of the dumbest things ever on forums.

P.S. This is going to be the 2nd top feature from Android I miss when I get my iPhone Tuesday. First obviously being the inability to use my phone as a mass storage (which is WAY PAST stupid)... which is a whole other thread that I wont get into.

if you jailbreak you can use it as a mass storage device

Swype is a solution for terrible keyboards that come with some phones.

iOS' keyboard is an industry gold standard.

Thank you everyone for responding!!

Hopefully this feature comes out for iPhone.

Unless Apple strikes a deal for no reason with Swipe Inc, its not going to happen. Apple would much rather go with a built in-house solution.

That said, Apple goes for simplicity, which drives the user experience for their iOS devices. Somehow I don't think swype makes sense for anyone not raised in the texting world.
