Since I started the thread, I decided I would "force" myself to use the Friends App a couple of times to try to get a better feel for it and to see if I might change my mind. If you want to text or call the people on your Favorite list from the Watch itself, it can be useful in certain situations.

After three weeks with the Watch, I find the texting and calling only really work when you are in a quiet environment, like at home or in a closed room at work, etc. I would not use the speaker on my phone or Siri to text in public, so the Watch is no different. I have BT in my cars for hands free calling, so not much use for the Watch when driving, either.

I am still not convinced the Friends App deserves its own dedicated button, but until they give us an option to customize, I may use it occasionally when the conditions warrant.

The funny thing is, since I started paying attention to this thread, I've used the button more. I used it two or three times in the past hour to send messages to my wife.

I use it. Siri makes calling a "friend" super easy but I don't always use Siri. Depends where I'm at and what I'm doing at the time, noise level and all too.

If you don't use Siri and didn't have the Button you'd have to click the digital crown to get to your phone watch app (maybe scroll around a bit to locate it), click on favorites/contacts, and then click into another level or two of screens. To me pressing the button and getting your top "friends" is just more direct and seems easier, plus you are seeing a number of "friends" all on one initial screen with just one click. I like that when you select your friend you have access to all of their phone numbers or can send them a message with just another press. Either way it still saves me time over pulling my phone out of my purse, unlocking it, etc.

I do think it's all what you get use to doing whether you feel it's worth it or not. If you don't use it now, I'd suggest using it for a while to call your spouse for example (or whoever you contact most frequently) and see if after a little while it seems easy and convenient to do it that way. Might end up liking it and using it.

Only for Apple Pay, I use that all the time. I think I've taken 2 or 3 screenshots since I've owned the watch. For Siri, I just say "Hey Siri" and she listens, a lot better since 2.1 came out. She was deaf and stupid before that, lol.

Never used it, but then I have no friends...

Seriously, I use "Hey Siri, tell my wife I'm running late." I'm not a kid, I don't message much.

So it can duplicate holding the crown for a couple seconds?

Seems more convenient to just press it once and quickly rather than holding the crown.

Kinda like if you had to hold down your home button to go to your iPhones home screen instead of just pressing it once.

Always thought it was a gimmick and never used it. Maybe once, though realized it was a reduced number of contacts and never used it again.

Wife and I use it often to message each other. Once a couple friends decide to get the watch, it'll probably be used just for funny pictures until that novelty wears off.

I use it pretty often. Usually to initiate txts with friends or family. Sometimes for a quick phone call from the watch. And of course double press for Apple Pay. It would still be nice for Apple to allow it to be programmable to some extent.

Since very few people use the button for the Friends App, why not let us choose what App it loads when pushed once? (thanks bofh666)

Add an icon to the home screen for the Friends App and keep the other functions as they are today. (Power on/off, Apple Pay, etc.). The default can still be the Friends App, but let me change it to whatever I want in Settings.

Seems like an easy way to get more use out of an underutilized button on the Watch. Watch OS 3?

4 people who don't use it means "very few people" use it? I'm not saying you're wrong, but 4 people (at the time you posted this) is hardly good data.

Aw gee feel sorry for all you friendless Watch users out there :p. Think of the "Friends Button" as Favorites on your Phone. No reason you can't put restaurants, etc that you frequent on their too.
