Whether or not you use MMS you have to admit that it is a pretty big feature that most people still use. Not everyone has a phone that can handle email unfortunately and Apple has to realize that.

The same bogus arguments for using email over MMS, should apply to SMS as well. And yet Apple included an SMS client.
