Maybe, if Apple can come out with a way to make the phones even thinner, they can have iPhone Air, then Air 2, etc :)

I sure hope they have cured from this fixation of beeing thinner and thinner. iphone with a addittional hump is already ridiculous enough...

My money is on smth like this :

iPhone Mini (9th Gen)*
iPhone Air (9th Gen)
iPhone Plus (9th Gen)

*The future low-end 4" models

This will go nice with the iPad naming scheme :

iPad Mini (5th Gen)
iPad Air (3rd Gen)
iPad Pro (2nd Gen)

And add the Macbook line :

Macbook
Macbook Air
Macbook Pro

This makes sense.

They will probably transition to Roman numbers, this year it will be iPhone VII to celebrate Rocky VII (Creed)

Then we will have the iPhone VII S Plus!

On a serious note, everyone knows after 10 there is 10.1 so my guess is iPhone 10.1 - iPhone 10.1 S then iPhone 10.2 and so on ;)

It seems that Apple will need to come up a way to move away from the "iPhone" brand
They'd be foolish to abandon such a popular brand name. Look at the iMac, MacBook Pro, and even iPod. All older products who's name have not changed.

Considering all the talk of dropping the headphone jack specifically because of size/thickness, I'm not so sure.

You forgot the fact that they officially called the iPad 3, "The new iPad" :D
And most likely that is what they will end up doing if the numbers get too high for their marketing people to like, they will bet introduced as the new iPhone, and the written documentation will call it the iPhone 10 or whatever the number is.

Agreed. I don't see anything wrong with continuing with the current numbering scheme.
Except they don't really make sense in context with the actual generation number. The iPhone 6S is the 9th generation iPhone but you would never know that by its name.

:rolleyes:Really? I like the number designation, helps me keep things straight.

How about the serious issue of lower case "i". Isn't it time to change to capital "I". IPhone is mature product now.

I'd love if they went with iPhone Mini, iPhone Air, and iPhone Pro like others have said. Keep it in line with the iPad line and somewhat with the Mac line and it will be much more cohesive and easy to differentiate models.
