Here is an idea.

Why not gradually make them transparent over the time one interacts with them? If someone pulled them over x amounts of time they would start to slowly fade away each time until they would disappear completely. Same with the arrow for unlocking.

Establish the meaning and when the user understands it, get rid of them slowly.

I think its a cool idea.
I love your idea Skika. I think it is very good, and also very modern. I've never seen this anywhere else.
This would definitely be a new learning feature and improve the learning experience. Instead of just having it once and then being removed, it slowly fades away with time... Brilliant! ;)

Inconsistent UI/UX is not good.

Someone help me out here....how does the arrow next to slide to unlock make iOS more ugly? And weren't people complaining that the unlock screw wasn't intuitive because the arrow wasn't there?

When are you going to learn that these threads lack basic logic? ;)

I personally do not like the arrow at the lock screen as well... What I also don't like is how you receive an incoming call and the new call button in the phone UI. In addition, I think the numbers that you dial in are smaller too. These changes were absolutely not necessary. I mean people who have iOS devices will easily know that the usual slide to unlock is by sliding to the right. As said before, people could also realize that the text is pulsating towards the right.

I guess never.. But really I don't get the hatred over the little arrow they added next to slide to unlock. It's a small visual clue that's not very obtrusive. Also with the buttons on the call screen...people complained about iOS 7 not having buttons, about affordances and all that crap. Then when Apple adds buttons to the call screen people complain and say the buttons want to make them cry. It's ridiculous.

To be fair, it's more than likely that not the same people complained about the things--the people who complained about there being no buttons are likely not the ones complaining about there being buttons now. While the complaints themselves might be petty here and there, the fact that different people might be unhappy about different changes is hardly strange (and would actually be more or less expected even).

Wait so it does have more pop?

I was just about to make a thread that it looks more shiny somehow and if I was just imagining things...

Oh sure. And of course people who don't like things are more likely to post about it. Just shows that its damn near impossible please everyone.

i could totally see the confusion because of the lack of arrow. plus the slide to unlock text was on top of the upward facing arrow for control centre.

i've been using iphones and ipads for years now since ios 2, and a few times even i slid upwards instead of sideways to unlock.

i can totally see it being complicated for new users. and apple really really needs to tap those new users that crave simplicity if its going to remain competitie with the onslaught of android devices.

I thought the arrow was perfectly fine but I didn't need it. However, not everyone has been sporting an iPhone since the very first one. Swiping one certain way is just habit and swiping only on the bottom is exactly what I do because that was what we had until now. That is, opposed to being able to swipe anywhere on screen.

Fact is, I think the small changes in beta 4 are fantastic. I like that they moved the HDR button, it was hard to hit it before for me (fat fingers) and not snap a pic in the process), swiping between notification panels, and yes, the call buttons.

I'm not at all sure how anyone can think beta 4 is at all like iOS 6. Unless you're talking stability. Thus far, it's stable. Let's see if the whole missed calls issue is over but I do know my service doesn't seem any better. It was always good on iOS 6. Could be something in my neighborhood.

Way too complex. So, grandma is using her phone and slowly things start disappearing? Confusing to the extreme for some people.

It's an original idea, but just not something for the masses. Apple would be flooded with people thinking their iPhones were defected.

From the pictures, arrow seems fine. But if it's truly cumbersome for some, submit a report and offer a solution to toggle it off and on from Settings. Logical and easy. Though, Apple would never go for that probably. Too much customization :p

I'd actually say they should bring the limited area for an unlock swipe (and the distance that you have to swipe it) back. Right now, with the whole screen allowing you to unlock, and only about 1/3 of a screen needed for that swipe, it's much easier to even accidentally unlock the screen. The whole point of a lock screen is not to make it simple to unlock, certainly not overly complex or time consuming, but at the same time not overly simple. What it used to be--a confined space that required a deliberate movement over majority of the screen--seemed about right.

I also believe they should go back to the old way. They should look at Android where you slide an item up, down or to the sides within an small area to unlock. I would like to swipe to the right for camera and left for Siri for example.
