I was always the kind of person who thought it was the job of the product designer to fix these things, not the customer. I must be wrong, and Google must intentionally leave things half-baked, so "power users" can fix them, then brag about how they're able to tweak and customise...

Oh dear. Thanks Google, and thanks for using Java - valiant of you.

Ya I can just see how this go by with the local lawyer, doctor, grandma, or mom with two babies. I think I would rather open the box turn it on and go.

You can always root it. its easy you just download 3 different programs(one really does nothing but its cool). Then you make sure that you are running windows vista version 3.09123 32 bit not 64 bit. Then you plug a usb cable into the pc but not the phone. You have to pull the battery lick it 3 times then put it back in(I made that up). Press and hold the on button, volume down and home button(if you have one if not then cross your fingers) for exactly 7 seconds. When you see a green man with a yellow belly you messed up and need to start again. Ok now it looks like your phone is bricked but its not. It just has no operating system and you lost your warranty. Then turn your phone back on and go to a cyeongynmod and download a custom rom and your good. Whew that was so easy.

Could you make me a PDF please? Thank you. Oh, and could you recommend a supplier of a third hand for the key combos? Brill! Cheers!

You've got that wrong; "Who are we" just released another 13 models as I replied to you

I think they picked that name as a joke, as noone seems to have ever heard of "Huawei", unless an uber-nerd... sorry, "power user" :D

The current "iPhone killer" all the Androboids are going nuts about is the Huawei Ascend P6 - prepare some drops to cool your eyeballs off after the visual affrontery which follows...

It has been said that it "looks like an iPhone" - maybe, in the same way that a drinking straw vaguely resembles a sewer pipe...

I actually never knew how to pronounce Huawei....now I do. that phone has nothing on this motorola. I can't wait for it to be released as its going to destroy the phone and laptop market.

Which one is the phone? I'm serious - I'd put nothing past these industrial design undergrads.

Been there, done the whole "Spin the wheel of Android, and see which button combo your handset implements to enter recovery mode"

Galaxy S4: "Beefed up, still jerky"

That's not Googles fault. That is Samsung's bloatware on it.

Android is Google's fault, and remains as such. I don't think a worse ecosystem, one could imagine.

[edit]

Moan all one likes to, this is precisely why Apple say "Nope, no way" when people ask them to "open it up" - their product is precious to them, their secrets and their closed loop works well without people pulling it to pieces and "improving" it. Objective C and all its' "core" frameworks are stunning - I don't see anyone outside Apple being able to do much better for now.

"Too many cooks spoil the broth" - so very true. Apple: One cook, one broth - the recipe is secret, it tastes yummy, and they got it just right for those who like it and if you don't like the taste, boil up your own broth and open your own cafe.

Ecosystem....lol.
Distributing control like that to carriers and keeping a relatively hands-off approach kills its quality. That's why Android has a larger marketshare for the price of lower margins and lower quality. I get the ideological reasons of having choice, but unfortunately when it comes to tech...I wouldn't crowd-source design, just like I wouldn't crowd-source my medication when I'm sick. I go to a doctor.

I agree, and I held back saying it sarcastically, so as not to sound pompous - but you are right. Google are good at this - search and Gmail - that is all.

The end user is asked: "Do you realise your phone contains proprietary binary blobs"

End user ---> :confused: :confused:

Geeks, generally, really don't get that non-geeks don't even live on that plane of thinking, and want something to be simple, self-explanatory and work fast, then put it back in their pocket.

But android is good. I don't care for your opinion but I think Android is better then iOS.

That was rude, but never mind - I am glad you like Android... *awkward silence* ... I think you may have got lost...

I have a MacBook Pro, am gonna be buying the next iPhone(because of iOS 7) have an iPad 2 and an iPod touch 4th gen.

It just annoys me when people hate a OS so much that their facts are wrong.

No need to be annoyed :) noone is annoyed with you. It really doesn't matter - we can all be kind, have fun and get on together. I don't have any way of thinking how I could "hate" Android, I just think it is a badly organised and buggy mess, with a few terrible design decisions - but that isn't a personal attack on you or your choices - don't need to feel bad or threatened by my opinion - that would make me feel bad.

I think a mistake is to start bandying the word "facts" around - again, it doesn't matter all that much, and if you are secure in yourself and your choices, my views should not make you feel bad or threatened, right?

:)

Ok I may have over-reacted:p but no damage done:) I do not find stock android to be a mess. Although Samsung has ruined Android on their phones(never intend on touching a sameshit product)

That's alright - no offence was taken, and I hope you haven't perceived any from me :)

Samsung... hmmm... crayons! :D
