Good point. The question is, why did it take them another year to implement a simple feature like that? Couldn't it have made it into 7.1? If dark mode isn't in the final version of 8.0, I hope that it will be a focus for 8.1.

They've been busy to get rid of the bugs, that came with iOS 7, so their focus lied on this rather than on new features, when releasing 7.1. Normally the x.1 update was the iPad feature update, wasn't it?

i wonder if you can set it so if you check your phone at night like while you sleep it will open in greyscale.
That would be pretty awesome. But we probably won't get that so we should at least beable to press the home button 3 times to turn it on.

Define work.

Some places buy cases for iPhones that turns it into a scanner for prices. I know lows does this.

----------

The reasoning behind adding it to Yosemite was so a user could focus on their work and not be distracted. I don't think anyone does work on a iPhone.

The reason and what apples says the reason is are diffrent things.

I hope they do introduce dark mode. After all if they're allowing 3rd party keyboards like Swype/Swiftkey then the keyboards will be black. The rest of the UI should match for uniformity.

If you want a black keyboard now, I'm using a tweak called 'Bloard' on my jailbreak that turns the keyboard black on iPhone/iPad. :)

Because now it's an ios 8 killer feature that will make you upgrade to the latest version, increasing statistics that 80% of the user base upgraded to ios 8 in a matter of seconds ;)

Dark theme ios 9, again.. Killer feature.

complain to Google, Apple doesn't make Google maps. changing the system UI on iOS wouldn't fix that anyways.

I have complained to Google. It's like complaining to the Borg. I do bitch and moan about Apple all the time, but compared to Google, Apple may as well be my own personal software maker instantly responding to my personal whim of the moment. Google just does whatever the fffk google wants to do, and it ain't pretty lately.

Do you know how many people use their phones for work email? That's the No. 1 device I respond on. Me and many others at my work place.

Reading/Replying to emails isn't what Craig had in mind at WWDC for the reason behind dark mode. He meant real work like writing a paper, doing spreadsheets, coding etc.

I read and reply to 100 emails per day at my job. All this with headphones on playing music in my head.

yeah, Apple really does listen to its users feedback. i suggested that they get rid of scrollbars back when Leopard was out. Three OSs later, they did get rid of scrollbars. I've also witnessed Logic Pro evolve based on user feedback as well. They can be stubborn about some things but they are listening.

They got rid of the stroll bars (which are still there but can be hidden) 3 versions/years after based on your feedback?

I've gotten random dark keyboards to appear on both the iPhone 5 and the iPad Air with beta 1.
They consistently show up during the initial setup where you have to enter your WiFi password but then they revert to white once the iOS is full activated but I've had them show up again at random times.
If a dark mode isn't planned then there are at least some elements already in there waiting.

I get paid to be a great communicator. That IS real work for me.

Can you write a paper without dark mode? If so then it's not needed.

See how obtuse that statement is?

Apple is the one who marketed the idea of dark mode to help you focus and not get distracted when you work. What does the lack of that feature tell you about the iPhone?

After iOS 7 was announced and before it was released people have been asking for a dark mode because it's so bloody bright, especially at night. I don't care what Apple thinks I should do with or how I should use their software.

then graphics are inverted as well (system wide). it's not usable.

for one app maybe but we're talking about a system wide solution.
