I text on my iPad all the time using Google Voice, since the display is huge it works pretty well over WiFi (I use tethering with my iPhone).

It won't work, because the SIM cards have different attributes applied to them by the network

Yes it does work I do it all the time. Just goto the APN settings and change it from broadband to phone. Works like a champ

sim switching is great as a last resort, but holy pain in the ass. i think $15 is worth the time and hassle and potential accidental damage you could do. i mean, what do you do for a phone while you're surfing or whatever on the ipad?
