Tried it on today, I think it’s slightly too big but will probably get it anyway!

What size is your wrist? I’m curious. I think it looks too large for your wrist. Especially if you’re planning to use it as an everyday watch (ie business, casual, workouts, etc…). But if you‘re planning to use it more as “tool” watch….when doing whatever activities it is you do….then overall aesthetics of it probably aren’t the primary focus.

170mm, just measured. Going to get it as I really like the design, I’m still using a Series 4 atm.

It’s huge and doesn’t look appropriate.
I wouldn’t buy it.
Unless it’s strictly for sport activities.
But as everyday watch? no.
being honest here.

I hope Apple plans to make a smaller Ultra. This on my 160mm wrist looks comical.

Try the ocean strap maybe. No lugs, so it drapes down rather than sticking out
edit: btw I don’t think it looks comical. It’s a new design with a rugged vibe, so kinda opposite to the traditional Apple Watch vibe

I wish the ultra had a bigger screen then I would want it, I want a screen bigger than series 7/8 45mm but the ultra screen isn’t bigger, I wish they made a series 8 47mm with bigger screen

I think part of the issue is that most people are taking these top-down photos that make the watch look enormous. This guy's post on reddit was really helpful:

You did right with the mirror shot. I post this mostly on Garmin forums, but added Ultra:

When sizing a watch don’t turn the Watch toward your face to judge. This rotates the radius/ulna bone position, making the wrist more square and narrow. Instead, look in the mirror with palm toward belly. This keeps the wrist in its natural rectangle and wider state.

Here for example are the 47mm Garmin F6 Ti sapphire and 51mm Tactix Delta as well as 47mm Epix 2 and 51mm 7X solar sapphire on my wrist, and even the 49mm Apple Watch Ultra, both turned toward face and in the mirror. My wrists are just 172mm, 6.75”, and I prefer the larger models for screen and battery.

Note in the mirror view the watches don’t look as huge.

That's what counts tbh. If it feels/looks too big for you then it is. I actually think it looks great on your wrist, but that's my opinion and it's your wrist 😄. Are you going for a Series 8 then?
I have a Series 4 44m in silver stainless steel. I changed the battery recently and I think I do not need to change at the moment.

I was attracted to the Ultra by the new design, but between the price in Europe (In Spain, 999 euros) and that it seems a bit big and that its features would not be a game changer for me, makes me wait another year, to see what they offer in the Series 9 or the Ultra.

Maybe if next year they release a 47mm Ultra, I would consider buying it.
