I would not use the 'out in public' amount of SS Apple Watches to gauge launch day appeal. I think many big Apple fans, like you'd find here on Macrumors and at the Apple Store on launch day, much prefer the SS model. I certainly do. It has irked many that it must come with cellular and only specific bands, but that hasn't seemed to really stop people from buying them. And like other's have said, it's unlikely a store gets many, and I don't believe they'll have a separate line for iPhone XS vs Apple Watch buyers, so you're likely in for a wait. Finally, even if people don't actually want the Apple SS to use, you'll certainly have people buying them just to resell because they're so constrained. If you care enough, it may be worth a shot, and I wish you luck.

None of the stores in Switzerland seem to have gotten the SS model i want... (Except maybe the Apple stores, but they don't seem to show their inventory on the website)

Too bad. Thought i might be able to pick one up today, because i was a bit late with preordering. (1. - 8. oct date)

Oh well... maybe the date will be moved up a bit. Would not be unusual.

the SS 44mm Series 44 comes out to $800 plus some change after tax, are there really that many out there that are willing to spend that much? i thought that most people usually opted for the cheaper sport model in general
You’re judging it wrong.
The sort of people that would go out and wait at a shop on opening morning ARE the sort of people more likely to spend higher prices on Apple products as they are those more interested and, dare I say, obsessed. Basically, they are us.
The average person you see walking around mid product release wearing cheaper aluminium models are not the same people who would wait for day one.
I doubt it has ever been statistically analysed, but I highly suspect the percentage of people wanting SS models is much higher the early weeks than it is over the whole life span.

Stainless configurations are not often stocked at Apple Watch stores, it won’t be until later that you will find more options and models, especially being how popular aluminum is strictly because of the price point.

Nope, you’re the only one who can afford it.

I just did a drive by my local AT&T store since our nearest Apple store is 150 miles away. No line as of 6:10 am. Signage on the door indicates some phones in stock, but no Series 4 watches.

I was at the Apple Store in Downtown Brooklyn first thing this morning and they had almost no Series 4 in stock. The only stainless model they had was silver 40mm. They aren't even offering order to pick up in store, shipping only.

So... I went to the Apple Store at 5PM today. They still had PLENTY of the Stainless Steel models available. I was pretty surprised about that.

I ended up showing up at 5am at the Trumbull store in CT. I was 2nd in line and first two guys were there to buy as many iPhones as possible. They came up from Queens because this is one of the quieter stores. They had plenty of stock of the alu series 4 watches and what seemed to be plenty of stock of iPhones. The Apple employees were very nice - they were handing out snacks and water at around 6a.

I walked out with a alu space grey 44mm watch. It's a nice watch and my first watch

If it’s like the iphone the stores update their stock every morning. Last year I pre-ordered the IPX at midnight and was going to have to wait like 3-4 weeks. I woke up early the day after launch and checked istocknow and was able to reserve an IPX for in-store pickup later that morning. I would never camp out at an Apple store when you can reserve for in-store pickup.

When you say "Early morning" does that mean like around 5am? 8am? I'll check Istocknow tomorrow morning to see if anything shows up on it

I walked into my apple store, Jacksonville Florida, and bought a 44 SS Gold Stone Sports Band at 4:40 pm. No pre-order, no hassle. Luck of the draw. I suppose it just depends on the store and a lil luck ;)

I started checking istocknow at around 7:30am. I don’t think Apple updates the system with new stock until sometime after 8am. But you want to reserve it as soon as it becomes available before the stock sells out.

Just to clarify, I’m pretty sure this doesn’t work on launch day. Only works starting on the day after launch.

I decided to go to my local Apple Store after work and couldn’t believe they actually had a 44mm Stainless Steel. After I the watch was placed in my hands, I cancelled my preorder with Apple. I was very happy:)

I ordered for pickup at my local (Long Island NY) store a 44m GSS. I have another coming Monday, does anyone local to me want the GSS with Stone sport band at cost? Monday night I’ll have it.

I want to pass it on to another forum member, or I’ll just return it unopened.

If so PM me.

(Just trying to pay it forward)

Typically is the stock updated only once per day? I saw updates on istocknow around 8 this morning for my area stores. Does a change/addition of stock ever occur midday?

With the iphones it was only once per day around 8am. I would just keep checking each morning until you find one. The istocknow map was showing pretty much every store in the US had aluminum S4 watches this morning when I looked at 10am west coast time. I haven’t decided which color to get yet. Just keep in mind that stock available to reserve for pickup may differ from what the store has available for walk-in customers. If you know what color/size/band you want just reserve it for in-store pickup.
