With the iphones it was only once per day around 8am. I would just keep checking each morning until you find one. The istocknow map was showing pretty much every store in the US had aluminum S4 watches this morning when I looked at 10am west coast time. I haven’t decided which color to get yet.
I’m looking for Space black SS. There was stock for a few minutes when I picked up my Max at 8 am yesterday but I couldn’t make up my mind and they ran out. The other store in my area had them through late morning but I couldn’t get back in the reservation windows they could give me. I’ll drop into the store tomorrow hoping walk in inventory is there if I don’t see stock online.

I'm sure it depends on where you live. I went on opening night here in Louisville and got a gold ss 44mm. As I was standing there four other people picked one up too.

I picked up one today, since my ship date was October 12-19. Of the three stores in my area, only one had the model I wanted. Got it on my wrist now and no more waiting. Use the Apple Store app to see if they have what you want before you head out.

the SS 44mm Series 44 comes out to $800 plus some change after tax, are there really that many out there that are willing to spend that much? i thought that most people usually opted for the cheaper sport model in general

I did. In fact, I got lucky by picking up my watch in a different county with lower sales tax. It was just under $800 for my 44mm SBSS.

Here's why I spent the money. I wanted a nice watch, not "a watch." I have never treated myself to a nice watch. Yes, the internals operate the same way, but I wanted better quality and appearance on the exterior. For my taste, I believe that I got it.

This wasn't a purchase because I needed it. I just wanted it. I expect most people get Aluminum watches, though.

I'd like to give a quick update, Thanks to a fellow forum member here in another thread, i managed to reserve a 44mm SS Series 4 on apple's website this morning around 8am to be picked up at a local Apple store. The watch is beautiful as expected (i owned the SS Model for the last 3 Generations) and the larger screen is certainly a welcome addition, I'll be returning the Preordered watch that will be getting delivered to me sometime next week.

Yep. I bought one today (44 Gold SS) online for pick up in an Apple Store an hour away. Was shocked they had it but glad. It’s beautiful.

Same reason I upgraded from the original sport grey series 1 to the series 2 stainless steel. The sport was great (and still is), but I wanted something that would look nicer with business clothes as well as dressier day-to-day.

Honestly, a nice looking watch is one of the few items of 'jewelry' that a man can wear (in a 'traditional' business environment) and no one will bat an eye. But for those who do notice, a nice (understated) watch will leave a positive impression. The 'understated' part is my opinion.

I have treated myself to old-fashioned traditional steel watches in the past - Swiss maker, but nothing more than $1K (and they last at least 30 years). Before the Apple Watch was released I was starting to consider more expensive traditional watches -- since good quality watches do pretty much last forever (aside from accidents or rough use...and even then, they can usually be refurbished).

This is a long way of saying that it IS OK (and GOOD) to treat yourself to something nice. It is healthy to show that you value your appearance and that you want a good quality, beautiful, and functional item to wear daily!

I didn’t order until late so my shipping time was not until mid October. I happen t be looking on thr Apple site and I noticed that my nearest Apple store had the one I wanted in stock so I swooped it up. Yay for me!

Inventory just refreshed and the only SS in my area is gold with sport band. The only stores on the east coast showing space black SS are two in FL for that matter.

I’ll try walk in later this morning.

walked right in and bought 2 yesterday (sat sept 22) at store opening. Both sport band black, 1 40 and 1 44mm

You would think..but I'm also surprised with the willingness to spend at least 1k on a phone. Based on the low supply of the SS models (selling out online in less than 10 minutes) and the long lines stores are already seeing I think you'll be disappointed. Even so, I wish you luck if you do make the attempt.

It's all due to the prevalence of Credit Cards, and "paying on time". I'd bet that if one had to put cash on the table for these new toys, they'd be a lot easier to find. :)
