Since the COVID 19 is still going on, does Apple order require signature at this time? I prefer not contact anyone. If signature is not required, how does Apple make sure shipment is not lost?

Thanks

I’m not sure about the answer to this, but I entered the thread thinking it would be a Macbook Air vs Mac Mini discussion to support the choice.

You might get a faster response if you update the title to something along the lines of getting a signature?

I recently received a new MacBook from Apple and UPS did a no-touch delivery...basically, I had to be there and they signed it for me.

It is entirely upto your usage case. The primary reason for me to choose Mac mini over MacBook Air is because the price and specifications comes with it. I don't feel I want spend 1300CAD plus tax for a dual core processor and non-upgradable everything.

I already have Acer Swift 3 and Nitro 5 as my laptop, therefore, I don't need a laptop. If I need to use Mac laptop, I already have already outdated 2012 MacBook Air (which still functions ok).

If you aren't need portable Macintosh computer, then Mac mini is very good choose. It suppose quad core Core i3 processor and 8GB of RAM (which is upgradable, thanks god). And it is 300CAD cheaper than MacBook Air.

I think it depends on your account/address/neighborhood. I haven't needed to sign for anything coming from Apple for years, including Mac Pros.

Here is an update from Apple:

Your item is on the way. In response to COVID-19, our shipping partners are providing no-contact delivery. You can also use the "Track shipment" link above to redirect your delivery to a secure pickup location.

It doesn't say anything about signature. It will be delivered tomorrow and I will see how this went

Assuming that it will ship with UPS (like my order), see the following. Other shippers probably have similar info on their sites.

"In the interest of employee and customer safety, UPS’s Signature Required guidelines are temporarily being adjusted such that consignees will no longer need to sign for UPS Signature Required deliveries. Despite this adjusted process the driver will still need to make contact with the consignee. The consignee must, at the time of delivery, acknowledge that UPS is making a delivery and, if applicable, show government issued photo ID."

It is fedex

Received a $1900 Mac Mini refurb yesterday that was shipped with signature required; FedEx left it on the kitchen porch without trying to get a signature. I imagine it depends a lot on where you live and how your driver feels about the neighborhood.

UPDATE: The package has arrived and it was shipped with signature required. FedEx simply ring the door bell and left the package in front of the door. Luckily, I was at home and picked up right away. Delivery theft in my area has been increase significantly recently with everybody is buying online now. With FedEx, you have option to cancel delivery and pick up at a FedEx location.

I ordered an eGPU last week and it was delivered by FedEx and left at the door. The driver rang the doorbell and left.

If it had been a more expensive computer etc. I would have been upset but under the circumstances it was OK. A year and a half ago I had ordered a MacBook and they left it at the front door as well, when I got the Ring notification I had my neighbor snatch it for me.

MY Drivers know me> I do a lot of IT work out of my home so Fedex, UPS, DHL, USPS all know me by name. I just got an i5 Mac mini with 1tb ssd and 8gb ram. About 1250 use driver rang bell I answered she signed it and placed in on the floor about 8 feet from me. Fedex direct from China.

Last week I did a threadripper build the 3970x cpu was 2030 with tax I purchased from amazon UPS delivered rang the bell signed it and placed it about 10 feet from me.
