I bought the base 13 inch from the Apple store about a week ago, just saw that at Best Buy it's on sale for $1100. Can I take it back to the store for a discount? Otherwise I'll have to return it :(, don't want to have to set up a new one again.

No, apple would be competing against themselves if they priced matched.

Not true. If you have a Best Buy near an Apple store, the Apple store will price match the same model.

I have heard from others that they will do the same if you are near a B&H Photo.

So it looks like its more about manager's decisions and flexibility, because I tried, and on other occasions see them refuse other people's request, while I was in the store eaves dropping. I think there is a policy of not matching but they give the manager freedom to make some decisions.

Same here.. Tried to get them to price match BB and was told nada, nope, not happening..

Apple likely makes more money on items they sell directly to consumers than they do from selling to retailers. That, along with being able to control the whole customer experience (from education to sales to support), would be a good reason Apple would want to price match.

Never heard of "price matching" at the Apple Store.
The price you see posted is the price you pay...

I'm under the impression that Apple restricts the price of Apple products sold at Best Buy and others to a certain discount of around $100 or less.

I've bought a few Apple computers from B&H Photo for a tad less than directly from Apple. B&H usually has free shipping and no sales tax for out of state shoppers.

Apple will price match up to 10% without needing manager approval. Seems this policy was enacted on the down-low sometime in 2013, based on all the news results my internet search returned.

Some doubt about it. For example, the Fry's chain has several Macs on sale, $151, $201 off before applying $20/$30 promo code.

Target was selling steep discounted iPads for Black Friday.

If there is a cap, it's most likely on a per product line basis. Probably something similar the Apple's employee discount program (eg. iPhone never on sale there, iPads some discount, Mac topping out at 15% off).

Would be worth try if in hand ready to return. Really better for Apple to give discount then take back return and resell as refurb. $200 decent savings at BB.

Suggest using a CC with price rewind. I purchased the Apple Stainless Steel watch at the Apple Store for $ 749. Used Citi with price rewind.
Saw it on BH website for $ 719, a month later. Received $ 30 refund from Citi.
[doublepost=1552135851][/doublepost]Use a credit card with price rewind. Just received a $ 30 credit from CitiCard after seeing my Apple Watch for less on the BH photo website. Purchased it a month earlier at the Apple store. Very easy process

Just bought a MacBook Pro 13 for $1999 last week. Apple is selling the same model on Amazon for $1699. I went by the Apple Store and was told I could return it and buy it from Amazon. What a waste of time. I'll just return the new computer and wait for the 2019 models. All these sales seem like a lot of inventory clearing.

It would make no sense for the Apple store not to price match if you are within the return period.

They would lose more when I end up returning the machine because the store wouldn't price match - any store manager with half a brain should be able to realize this and realize they have no leverage whatsoever when the customer is within the return period.

"Would you be willing price match this?"

"No."

"Ok, well here you go, you can have this back and send it through the refurb process and lose more than you would on the price match, your prerogative I guess, makes no difference to me because I'll get the cheaper price one way or another." *shrug*

Oh god, please no... that would be horrible mess to buy anything from apple anymore... how would they price match? Can i get the same discount from apple net store (we dont have a real apple store here) than i find it somewhere from internet?

The Apple store(s) here will price match, up to a total of 10% on certain products (macs, and ipads), but not on all.

If that is true that is another ”customers are not treated equally by Apple”. Im surprised that no journalist havent written an article about this.

If you live in a right place, you get 10% discount - living in a wrong place, you pay the full price in a tag? Phuh!

I'm not sure what business tier you're on but my discount on a $2000 laptop purchase was $140. Nice that a random Amazon buyer can buy a MacBook with an even better discount.

I'm of the opinion that it makes less sense for Apple to price match in the first place (from a company perspective).

No matter where you get your MBP from, it comes from apple, why would apple compete with itself and reduce its profit margin. They already got their money from amazon, they don't really care if amazon decides to sell it for 1 dollar because amazon already paid for them

If you are an individual, yeah buy where & when you can get the most discount. With an Apple business discount, your purchase volume affects your discount. I buy more than $5,000 annually, and could get 10% discount. On that $2,000 MacBook, I could get about $200 off.

Not true again. Apple will not price match competing retailers. However, they will give you up to a 10% discount if a competing retailer has the MacBook you're looking for on sale. For example, if Best Buy has the 128GB 2018 Air on sale for $999, Apple will give you 10% off the full retail price of the same 2018 Air: $1079. Not a price match but close. This isn't a policy they advertise; you have to ask for it in store. And I think it's at their discretion.

second question, what are the advantages of buying an  product there instead of microcenter?

None. If you buy your Apple product at an authorized Apple retailer, such as Micro Center, it carries the exact same warranty as one bought in an Apple store. As a matter of fact, should it go bad, you can take it into an Apple store for repair if necessary. So get the best deal you can from an authorized Apple Retailer and take the money you save and buy some Apple stock with it.
