I suffer from OCD and to relieve it I often have to look up or gather statistics about how many people experiencing the same issues and how many of them don’t consider it as a problem/do nothing about it.

I can relate to the OP. The spider thread was fun though.

Thanks for this post, I have OCD and this is exactly what I have to do, when I find an issue I have to find out other people’s opinions on it in order for myself to accept whether it’s normal or not. Thank you.

Has anyone noticed that the front is much easier to clean than the back? Give the front a slight wipe with a clean and dry microfiber cloth, and all fingerprints disappear as if by magic. On the back you need to wipe harder and longer to get the same result.
Also, the front takes a lot of use until fingerprints and smudges show, while the back gets instantly dirty if you just look at it crossly.
Do they use a lower quality coating on the back? Or is it just my imagination?

I’d also like to hear if they use a lower quality coating on the back.

It’s your imagination. However, I know what you’re referring to though, that the front display is much easier to wipe down versus the back of the glass on the iPhone. I don’t think has anything to do with the quality of the Oleophobic coating, it’s simply just the front of the display is slightly different from its how it’s manufactured compared to the back.

You are going to have to change your name OP to 'ThatiPhoneLickingKid' lol

Lol, they taste too good :D:p

Seriously though I never licked the phone just licked a little bit of my microfibre cleaning cloth and wiped my phone

I’m just curious, if let’s say I brushed my teeth and then an hour later cleaned my iPhone with a microfibre cloth which has been made damp with my saliva to clean the phone, would this damage the oleophobic coating as my saliva may still contain toothpaste.

I’m asking this as I like brush my teeth 4 times a day and am always cleaning my phone and sometimes when I can’t use water just use my saliva.

Anyone know if this could have removed the oleophobic coating?

how is saliva unhygienic if it’s on a microfibre cleaning cloth, the cleaning cloth claims to remove bacteria from the phone.
Errrmm because the saliva gets onto the phone and dries on it.....ugghhhh
Oh and microfibre isn’t necessarily antimicrobial either. Anyway it’s not so much the bacteria that bothers me, it’s the thought that id be handling someone else’s saliva all day long

Why? What would stop you from cleaning it first? I'm sure a wet wipe would remove even the minutest trace of any dried saliva from the screen.
This reminds me of an old joke. What does a policeman say when he sees a banana skin on the pavement? 'Oh, sh*t, I'm going to fall again'.

I just installed a tempered glass protector for the back as well. I use a silicone case but extra protection won’t hurt.

You can try installing one if you want to preserve the oleophobic coating.

Thanks for letting me know about this, what brand of screen protector did you get?

I got it dirt cheap at work. No one really buys back protectors and we have loads in stock so I just put one on because why not.

I think the brand was xPro or something. It isn’t very good as it has a halo effect around the edges but I don’t really care since I use cases.

I agree that some extra protection for the glass back is a Good Thing™. But, being the curious soul that I am -- If the screen protector is on the back glass, then how does "halo effect around the edges" even matter, when the back glass is, well, just a piece of glass. Seems to me that cheap is really not an issue, and even visual clarity really doesn't apply to a back glass.

It doesn’t, like I said.
