Was looking into getting the gold stainless steel model with black Milanese strap but heard the black Milanese has a coating that's the same hardness as sapphire crystal and could possible scratch it?

It can if you’re not careful. The Black loop from Apple is DLC coated. Not sure if the gold one is.

Yes, the black Milanese loop has a diamond like carbon coating, which is the same type of coating that is used on space black Apple Watch, which is equally as hard, if it comes in contact with the watch, it will scratch it. It’s happened to multiple members already.

The gold band does not use DLC from my understanding, however; the gold stainless watch uses a PVD coating to protect the casing.
