I find the Bumper to be aesthetically pleasing. Frankly, I think it makes the iPhone 4 a bit more attractive. Plus it gives the iPhone 4 some 'grippy' surfaces to hold, thus helping to prevent accidentally dropping the iPhone (that's a form of protection right there).

I posted a review of The Bumper (including some high-quality photos):

No way, you mean they aren't breaking even on the deal? Every case manufacturer is making a killing, you think iSkins, inCase, Belkin really spend anymore than $1 or so on manufacturing or materials? Vaja Cases sell for a few hundred usually, they are made in Brazil out of nice leather... but cost probably $3-5 per case manufacturing wise.

Aren't vaja hand made / stitched?

Yeah they are, and they're amazing... I have had two of them and they are amazing quality, the best of any case that I have had. More and more of the models now are glued and not stitched... but they are still great.

I was just saying their profit margin is huge, probably bigger than Apples. They are handmade and many custom made but Brazil has a ton of manufacturing sweatshops much like China, where Apple makes their $0.20 bumpers.

Scratches happen!

apples evil plans

step 1: release bumpers
step 2:????
step3: profit

From what i can gather, (i just got mine) it doesn't server a purpose other than right now its fixing my antenna issue and will probably end up scratching my phone more than protecting it. Thanks random dirt!

Back in the day, I got a silicon type case/cover for my 3G iphone. I had to because that phone was super slippery and I almost dropped it immediately. A year later the case was falling apart ,so got a new one, only to reveal many scratches on the silver edging of the iPhone. I hope they can fix the reception issue with a Software upgrade. I really really don't want to cover the beautiful metal banding!

The rubber bumper is going to scratch your phone how exactly? It protects the sides from falls, and its raised around the edge on both sides to avoid it from making contact when you set it down on a table or another surface, which avoids scratching.

How much does it overlap the glass on the front and back? If it does, debris WILL get caught under there and scratch the glass. The back of my 2G looks like rocks were ground into it due to a case.

It lifts the back of the phone off any surface too. Should stop most scratches to the back of the phone because of this.

Not much debris gets caught under it. I take it off and give it a wipe every now and then.
