6s and down yes. 7 and up no. Unless you have defect. As the button doesn't move. So it can't wear out. One of the main reasons I wanted to get the 7 and not the 6s that and the matte black color

Any physical button will eventually wear out. That's their nature. I feel iOS 10 has reduced my need to press. I have set raise to wake to allow me to just rest my thumb on it to unlock the phone. That along with force touch multitasker has reduced my physically pressing greatly. It took a bit of relearning, but I legitimately wanted this (not just to save button life).

The only iPhone that I have ever had any home button issues with is my original from 2007, which was used as my phone for three years and an iPod for the last seven. The button has a dead zone that, when pushed from the upper right corner, it tends to fail. Everywhere else it's fine. Other than that, I haven't had any home button issues with an iPhone that I have owned (2G 2007-2010, 3GS 2010-2012, 5 2012-2016, SE 2016-present).

Never had a home button break yet though I'm sure some do have issues like a small percentage will with any electrical device. I wouldn't worry about it.
