Another question...Can I auto-sync my iPhone 4 with my iTunes Library, but manually manage songs and stuff on an iPad? Never used two devices with the same iTunes Library before so just curious.

You want over kill...

17" iMac (2008) HOME/WORK
11" MacBook Air (2010+) HOME/PORTABILITY
4G iPod touch 32GB GYM
16GB iPad Wi-Fi OUT
32GB iPhone 4 TAKE A WILD GUESS

I turned my brother into Mac w****.

My usage is this..
MacBook Pro 13" + iPhone for portability, and then an Apple monitor for when i'm home, i just hook my MacBook Pro up.

I've yet to find a productivity use of an iPad, and with Mac OS X Lion, i think i'll be using my MacBook Pro more.

You say you don't think you will be using the iPad outside the home but I sure do. I take it out regularly when I go to lunch or anytime I will have a little downtime and won't be far from my car.

If you have an iPhone 4 and an iMac, a better portable solution would probably be used quite a bit. The real choice is MBA/MBP or iPad. For me, the iPad does 95% of what I want to do mobile. Yes, I would like better office tools but that is about it.

The compromises of a clam shell design, weight, indirect interaction with the OS (no touch screen) out weigh the occasional benefits of a laptop - for me.

I love my iPhone 4 and it is great for quick email scanning/clean up and browsing, facebook and navigation. But real browsing for more than a couple of minutes, better apps, movie viewing, book reading... The iPad is just much better for.

I have a Macbook and iPhone 4. I mainly use my Macbook at home and my iPhone everywhere else. The main reason I'm getting the new iPad 2 is portability. It's infinitely easier to use than my Macbook or iPhone if I'm say, laying in bed. I like to watch Netflix while I'm in bed and the iPhone just doesn't cut it and the battery life on my Macbook isn't feasible for sustained use. It's not overkill in the least. I can come up with plenty more reasons as to why I it's not but you get the idea.

Get the iPad, it's the best device for web browsing and reading the MacRumors forum :).

Also started reading a lot of ebooks, and it is a much better experience than using a Mac or iPhone.

Personally I don't see what having an iMac has anything to do with having an iPad. It is a desktop. Obviously, an iPad would benefit you whenever you want to do computery things while not sitting at a desk, like resting on the couch, lying in bed or sipping coffee at Starbucks, all while avoiding the limitations of a 3.5" iPhone screen.

I could see there being an argument against buying an iPad if you already owned a MacBook or PC laptop, but if you only have a desktop ... yes, something like the iPad will benefit you, unless you choose to restrict your use of it to sitting at the very desk where your iMac now resides.

I TOTALLY agree with that,I have an iPhone 4, 21.5" iMac and random gens of iPods including the iPod Touch...and i want the iPad 2 pretty bad just because i was waiting for the camera update so im sure i will get the 16gb 3g one,Unless i win the one from Techno Buffalo :)

Well...I went ahead and bought one anyway:p 16GB Black WiFi. Still getting used to the roles each device will have in my life. The iPad is definitely a "luxury" item to have around, but I'm sure I'll develop a good routine that will incorporate the benefits of all 3 devices - iMac, iPad and iPhone. Thanks for all the advice:D

So, I have a 2010 quad-core i5 27" iMac AND an iPhone 4. Do you think the iPad 2 would just be Apple overkill? I mean, if I want to go to a website, am I really going to choose between 3 devices to do so?

Curious if other people who plan to buy the iPad 2 also own a Mac and an iPhone. Let me know your thoughts on the benefits of owning all three.:D

I own all three, different tools for different purposes.
If I had to give up ONE, it might just be the iPhone 4.

I thought an iPad 2 would be overkill owning an MBP and an iPhone 4. That's the biggest reason I passed on the first iPad, I just couldn't justify the need.

Then I started to realize that it was overkill to constantly fire up my laptop just to read something, browse, pay bills, or anything that was too tedious to do on the iPhone 4's tiny screen while at home.

I wanted an instant-on device to do that casual stuff. Then I could prevent putting wear & tear on the MBP (particularly the hard drive) and save it for real productivity work. Then the iPad 2 made perfect sense.

I'm still getting used to the ergonomics of the device (how I want to hold or postion while typing etc.) but each day I use it I find new uses for it.

I've a Macbook Pro 13", iPhone 4 and am going to get iPad 2. Did have the original iPad till i sold it to make the financial blow of iPad 2 , significantly less. I love the iPad for college note taking and web browsing while on the sofa, listening to music, playing fun games etc. However still prefer the Macbook Pro though for using for work , plus I have to bring the macbook with me on occasional days as i'm a computer science student creating an app. But the days I do get to bring iPad(4/5 weekdays) it's perfect. I fit all 3 in my life just fine :D
