I turned off the background dimmer an hour after opening my iPod touch and my Safari constantly crashes. It used to view web sites with "iPhone apps" just fine, like facebook and gmail, but now even those crash. As annoying as it is, it's even more annoying that it inexplicably stops the music as well.

The music app crashed on a few songs randomly, but apart from that its been fine.

My iPod Touch Safari crashes on a regular basis!, and Sometimes the whole ipod freezes and restarts itself. Also every time i sync with my pc the time&date settings get reset :(

Had my iPod Touch since November ( and it is NOT jailbroken - I would imagine most serious "system" crashes are from jailbroken iPods or faulty HW that can be replaced under warranty ), the only thing that has crashed is Safari about 5-6 times since I've had it. And I use it for browsing the web a lot, so, in my opinion, Safari hasn't crashed much. And when it does "crash" it drops back to the Home screen and when I click Safari again, it remembers all the pages I had loaded, so not really that big of a crash.

I did have one episode of one Podcast that wouldn't run to completion on the iPod Touch, but ran fine on my laptop. I deleted it from my Library, downloaded it again, copied it to the iPod and it seemed to play fine...

I love this thing! Can't wait for SDK apps, a good word processor that takes advantage of the touchscreen gestures will be awesome.

I too have had my IPT since November. It started out on 1.1.1 firmware and now has a 1.1.2 Jailbreak, which was very easy to do. I have had no stability problems at all.

"Does the iPod Touch Crash Alot???"

NO

I'm hesitant to say NEVER but I've had 1.1.1, 1.1.2, and 1.1.3 and have done the Jailbreak thing and have loaded it up with songs and pictures, and videos, and apps and I can't honestly think of a time when the device crashed. I've rebooted it on purpose after installing and deleting things but I can't say I recall a time where it froze or quit on me in mid steam. If it did, it's certainly not often. This is unlike the Palm devices I've used for years. I like Palm pretty well but I had a lot of occasions where it would freeze and reset (reboot). I mean a lot of times it did this. IPod Touch isn't like that.

When I was on version 1.1.2 I had some issues with the device freezing when opening some e-mail atttachments. I am on 1.1.1 now and don't seem to have this issue now.

If you get frequent Safari crashes (or other application crashes), the best remedy I've found it to restart your iPod. You do this by holding down the home and sleep buttons simultaneously until the shutdown screen appears. Restart, and all (should) be well. Works for me, anyway.

Ripped off again by Apple

Mine crashed constantly and eventually threw fatal errors when trying to sync. I've had 2 now and both did the exact same thing, especially on airplanes.

Needless to say I am not at all happy with the iPT and wish I'd never gotten the stupid thing.:(

Mine crashes constantly also. Hell just the time it took me to write this forum entry it has crashed already 3 times. I am so mad I don't know what to do...these things aren't cheap! There doesnt seem to be any fix for it either...Apple has ripped me off again!!!!!!!!If anyone knows a fix email me I guess, and thanks to anyone who even tries to help Apple sure won't.

This seems to fix mine for a while then Safari starts crashing again.

Lots of necro threads around here lately. Also, I'm posting this rather than emailing you, since other people may find it useful, and after all, that is the point of a forum :)

Now down to business!

What do you mean by "crashing"—do apps randomly close themselves, or do you frequently have to completely reboot? If the former, does it happen while you're using the apps, or right after you try to open them?

Does this happen with every app, or just the same few apps over and over? Does it happen with official Apple apps too, or just third-party apps from the App Store? If it happens in Safari, are there certain websites that will make it crash?* Have you tried updating your apps through iTunes to get new versions of everything? (Many developers regularly release new versions of their software to fix bugs.)

What model and capacity Touch do you have? What version firmware are you running? Have you tried restoring your iPod and setting it up as a new device (NOT restoring it from backup)?

What have you tried to get Apple to do to fix the problem? Have you taken it to a Genius Bar and shown them the problem?

* When the Touch runs out of memory, it will quit the frontmost app. This can easily happen if you have an older iPod and load a large website.

Ipod 3.1.3 crash

My ipod was literally crashed as i was reading this article. it was frozen on the apple logo load up screen for like 20 minutes. then i heard this ipod noise and looked to see my ipod on the lockscreen it was weird. I was downloading this app in installous when it just crashed.
