I understand, i don't travel maybe once a year?

I will admit when i played with the MBR last Friday and picked it up i was like . This is light, like TOO light lol. Very sexy though :)

I always complain when phones, laptops, and tablets are too light. LOL

It does get to a point when you are like OK OK its VERY thin and light, but would you sacrifice a little extra weight for a USB and a better battery ;)?

I hate when things are TOO light as well. I play in a mens ice hockey league as a goalie. They sell these composite sticks that are SO light now i felt like i was going to fling it across the rink lol. And i have snapped a few by the shaft easily. I go with the wood/composite which is a bit heavier but i get a better puck clearing and can "feel" it better. And they don't snap nearly as much and cheaper! So yes, for some people the lightest possible isn't always better.

Absolutely not. In fact, I'd sacrifice the camera to make the bezel thinner... and I'd sacrifice for a smaller trackpad to make the unit smaller... maybe even 2 hours less battery to make it a little thinner, but that may be going too far. It's all about individual needs, and Apple has to stand a ground between style and usability. I think this time they hit the nail on the head with both.... though like any product they can't please everyone.

THEY SHOULD have sacrificed the camera, i mean who the hell is even going to use it if its 360p or 460p whatever it is, thats just insult. Should have just left it out and put that money into making the bezel even smaller or something.

I would want the trackpad the same size, full size though I'm my opinion. Just because i have big bear paws. :D

Interesting you would sacrifice 2 hours battery to make it even thinner  What is the real world usage on battery like 7-8 hours?

My guess the bezel is what it is because the bottom has to be the size it is. Of course they have to match up. Probably just threw a low quality camera in, but who uses webcams anyhow? Not me. Guess some do.

The trackpad is not as important for me as I always have a mouse connected.

The battery life would be fine 2 hours less. Where do you use your computer? Home (I assume has plugs), work (I assume has plugs)... on a plane (which most planes that fly more than 6 hours now have plugs - but are you sitting on a plane 6+ hours using it?), or on the go (which if you spend 6 hours a day commuting, oye)

He isn't referring to the keyboard. He is talking about the small footprint where you lay your wrists when you are using it. The 11" one is smaller thus making your wrists more cramped and less comfortable. Wrists fits perfectly on the 13" model.

I have to say you should NOT be wresting your wrists ANYWHERE when typing unless you want to have problems with carpal tunnel. Wrists up!

Well for me, I'm a personal trainer and workout myself 6 days a week. My wrists need ALL the rest they can get lol. I actually wear these velcro wrist straps in the gym to make my wrist joints more solid. I move A LOT of weight for my size, my Flat bench is 305lb, and i only weight 220lbs, 210 in the summer. Not sure i can ever avoid carpal tunnel in my line of work and my personal workouts when i get older. Currently 30 and have no problems, thank god lol.

I just tried typing with my wrists not rested and my muscle memory just isn't having it lol.

Yeah, I did one long project push when I was around 30 and didn't pay attention to that. And I have been paying the price ever since. I think weights are different, you do it in bursts and have breaks, when you are constantly typing and resting your wrists and pressuring nerves, that's what get ya!

Its all down hill from here ! I promise i will try and see if i can correct my typing posture :D I certainly don't want carpel tunnel down the road lol.

wish they made a retina macbook with the 13 inch macbook air footprint, but with a 15 inch screen and 2.5 lbs.
Now THAT would be perfect.

Eventually it will come. I believe in few years the Air line will be replaced by the new MB. Retina screens and maybe a 12" and 15" screen sizes. Of course the MBP will remain as is.

I wanted to like the 11" Air. But my wrists were so cramped it was very uncomfortable. I love the portability of it. I have small hands so I'm not sure why it was as uncomfortable as it was, but it was. The 13" is heavenly. I would absolutely LOVE a 13" RMB with the same wrist space as the current 13" Air.

Share the same thoughts, except I have big hands :)

I ultimately went with the 2015 MBPR for now and see in the future if we can get a 14" MBR or a 13.3" MBA retina even though I see them giving the axe to the 13" MBA. So here's hoping for a 14" MBR in a footprint of a
13" Air :)

Gee, how small do you want this thing to be?

Don't really see retina versions of the MBA coming, at least not until high res displays are the norm among other makers. I think the MBA line is like the iphone c of the Macbook line now. Entry level product that's a few hundred cheaper than the "premium" MB and MBP.

Get a 13" pro??

I want a 1" cube that makes a 3D projection of both the screen and keyboard where I can adjust the screen to any size I want. Runs off the energy from ambient temperature, has no ports, and is waterproof. That small. Macbook micro.

Well wouldn't it be the same? I said 14" because they fit a 12" screen in almost the exact "footprint" dimensions of that of the 11" Air. SO i would assume you could fit a 14" screen in the same dimensions of the 13.3" 2015 MBPR. I say MBPR because although thicker... It has a "smaller" footprint than the 2015 MBA 13.3". Odd, but i guess thats how they spread everything out for the big battery. The bezels and wrist rest area is noticeably bigger on the 13" MBA as soon as you pick it up compared to my 2015 MBPR.

To consider: the 12" screen is actually hardly any bigger than the 11" Air (the screen is actually 11.6"), while the 13" Air has a 13.3" screen, so the jump to 14" is a bit bigger. Below a comparison of 11" Air and 12" MB - not such a big difference as the numbers suggest.

True all, but the extra display area on the 12" compared to the 11.6" is exactly where I want it - more vertical space. For people who are working with Word or Excel, for example, it's great.

Which again throws up the question: Why so many compromises to gain 4mm of thinness? Just squeeze in the retina screen in the 11" Air and keep the rest as is.... (sorry, daydreaming...)

well don't forget the 8GB of ram and 256GB of storage... so double the ram and double the storage. Surely that counts for something.

Its missing the retina display...which would make it at least $200 more expensive and bulkier at a minimum and/or sacrafice battery life. You dont think Apple weighed the pros and cons of slapping an retina display into the MBA past simply the fact that the consumer has had HUGE interest in such a device since the summer of 2012...and it would be a HUGE seller amongst their already presumably most popular line of macs. The 13" rMBP is basically the MBA with a better display...and its priced that way to boot.

You don't make much sense in your reasoning.

The 11" air and 12" retina have almost the exact same battery capacity. And the retina display is not more bulky as proven by the new macbook...

I doubt the 11" Air could get 9 hours battery if they put a retina display in there and kept everything else the same.
