Yes, for a prolonged time of use. However, I now always enlarge the text when I read and I no longer have any eye strain.
 
With the 11" yes strain, with the 13" no.

Close up, prolonged, intense, glaring light source work is tiring.
The smaller the fonts the worse it gets.

And its not always the 'quality' of the screen but your peepers.

A good rule of thumb, if you are having issues with any computer screen, get your eyes checked. Larger screens and point sizes just mask the issue.
 
For me it depends on the lighting conditions. In a well lit room I have no issues. However, in a dark room the display autodims to the point where I get eye strain.
