I'm interested in the 1080p with stabilizer capabilities. Only time I might use the iPad camera as a camera is when I'm scanning documents using JotNot type of app.

I'm personally going to love taking video, especially, with the new iPad. It'll be the only device I have that can take 1080p video; my best camera is a Canon Powershot S3 and it's 6 MP (only one more than the iPad) and can only take 480p video.

I like making YouTube videos of me covering songs, so the iPad will work excellently for that, as long as I find a good way to prop it up, haha. :)

Yes...

1) Retina display shows the image better, so you can take a better initial shot.
2) You can edit photos immediately.
3) You can send them out, etc. just as fast.
4) Large grip allows you to stabilize easily.
5) My iPad is my phone (VoIP, Talkatone & GV Connect), so it is always with me.

He looks like an idiot and you will too.

I won't know until I use it.

Who knows, it may even be the killer app (ok, a stretch :D ).

The nice, big, screen may be interesting.

Yep, I'll definitely take my iPad outside more often. Speaking of cameras, would be sweet if there was some way to process RAW files as well so I could quickly edit pics from my DSLR without having to get home to my desktop

This thread would have been relevant had it been posted AFTER the iPad actually came out.
 Huh? It also plays movies at higher resolution and will enable faster LTE speeds, are people not allowed to talk about that either?

Specs were released. Demonstrations were made. Software is available. People have preordered. People are anticipating delivery. The product exists so why wouldn't people talk about usage scenarios?

Nope. Long, long way to go before iPad matches my Canon EOS 600D 18mp DSLR! I doubt I'll ever use the rear-facing camera, but the FaceTime camera will be great for videochat (I'm upgrading from an iPad1).

I cannot wait to use the new iPad in conjunction with the Canon tho (via the camera kit) - it will be GREAT for viewing photos out and about. Means I won't have to lug my MacBook around too!

I do use the camera on my iPhone 4 from time to time for twitter snaps etc - but that is a lot more convenient than the iPad for that sort of thing.

That's the one feature I'd love to be added to iPad - support for Canons camera raw format :s JPEG will have to do I suppose (but I'm hardly a pro, so doesn't matter that much!)

I most definitely will be using the rear camera. In fact, that is one of the primary reasons I bought it.

I compete in dog agility. When such subtle things as where my feet or my fingers point, sends my dog off on a completely different path as opposed to what I thought I was doing, the iPad can be an invaluable tool. I can get the video recorded and immediately after my run can review it on a nice large screen to instantly understand what I did and why my dog reacted the way she did. I find I retain things a lot better when events are recent and fresh in my mind.

I've seen plenty of people use the iPad 2 to great effect, but I really wanted the improved optics and with the Retina screen, I was sold.

Maybe I missed it, but are we under the assumption that people have EVER looked cool using a screen as a viewfinder? :D

I get that the iPad looks silly(er) than taking an iPhone photo, but it's not like we're bedazzling a leather jacket here. Everyone looks silly taking a picture nowadays, the difference is what happens AFTER you take the shot.

It seems like PiRAWnha is the most full-featured raw processor but reviews are mediocre and it's supposedly buggy :(

Mine will probably get more use than my iPad 2 camera did, but I'll still be using my 4S for most of my casual photography and my Panasonic P&S for more involved stuff.

I might actually use mine for some video recording. Not sure I'll use it in public, but for making a quick Youtube video or something like that it seems hard to beat. It will also be my only device that records 1080p.

Photosmith is supposed to be able to integrate with Lightroom, if you're a LR user (which I am). I believe the current version of Photosmith will allow the user some control over exposure related parameters, along with tagging and keywording and such. Exploring that sort of functionality is going to be a high priority for me (sure hope the camera connection kit works with a USB card reader 'cuz my D700 is CF-card only).

No, but I think there's a big difference between grabbing a snapshot of someone using a device that is the size of your hand versus using a device that is size of your head.

There's a reason people look overly conspicuous running around with video cameras perched on their shoulders. The "handycam" was pushed out there to help make video less obtrusive and not put your subject in a position of noticing that they were being filmed. Same for digicams in general. The smaller the camera, the more likely the subject of the photo is to remain natural and not ham it up for the camera.

You whip out an iPad and hold it up, its pretty damn obvious to everyone that you are using it to take a picture. And that destroys the spontaneity of the photograph.

Just an opinion, but I think iPad photography is an oxymoron.

Cool, good to know. I've been using Capture NX 2 since I have a set of custom color profiles that only the Nikon software understands. It's horribly slow though... Will have to check out Lightroom.

Both my phone and DSLR take much higher quality pictures.

Not to mention it's not awkward as hell to hold (while trying to take a picture)

For light editing I might use iPad over my laptop now though....

Two iPads on the ways, want to refuse one of them

I ordered the wifi only on release day to replace my 3G iPad. Had planned to give up my unlimited iPhone plan and move to the tethering option and just use that with the iPad.

Then I read the next morning that AT&T is not currently throttling those with the grandfathered data plan for the iPad, which I still also have (I currently have the original iPad 3G and still have the $30/unlimited plan on it every month). So the next morning I ordered the one with 4G and will move the unlimited plan to it (which I have confirmed is easily doable).

They are both scheduled for delivery Friday morning by FedEx.

I plan on pre-signing for the deliveries as I won't be home. What I'd like to do is mark the wifi only one as "refused" and sign for the other one.

Has anyone ever had experience doing that?

If i were you i'd keep the wifi one and sell it on craiglist for a lot of money if inventory runs out (very probable), if not then just return it to a store and get the refund.

I'm not in the US but having 3G access 24/7 on the iPad has me intrigued, but already got a wifi model coming my way at the end of the month, maybe with the 2014 iPad i get LTE if we have it by then.

I know most people don't care for the camera but as someone who was at least "curious" then I have to say the quality is pretty underwhelming. And according to several articles saying its actually the iPhone 4 camera and not even the 4S.

Sure, its better than the last camera but its even as good as the 4S then I guess I won't be using it either. Its a real shame they didn't just reverse the camera because for a FaceTime camera it would actually be useful.
