After hours of use my iPad only ever reaches a 'gentle' warmth. Personally I find it very comforting and makes me love my iPad even more.

This warming issues seems way, way overblown. I've been using my new iPad "naked" for a couple days now (previously was in a case) and have yet to feel anything resembling uncomfortable heat to the point I had to put the iPad down -- and I don't have big hands.

I think anyone who has experienced heat so hot they couldn't handle touching the iPad has a defective one and should return/exchange. That is not a normal situation.

Just curious: What kind of case was you into? One that you can recommend?

I use this Philips easel case. I like it b/c the pouch is ultra light but also padded. It attaches to the easel by velcro so it's really a 2 in 1. The case can be attached to the easel in either portrait or landscape as well. Not too many cases are designed that way, usually its one direction or the other. But if I'm not traveling I still prefer to handle the iPad sans case.

It gets slightly warm on occasion. In all honesty, I prefer that to stone cold aluminium. Honestly.
The same with my iPhone. No biggie, it's only an issue, because it's an Apple product, 100% sure of that.
Bodes well, if that's all the haters can latch on to.

This.

Odd that those who say their iPad is cool to the touch or not warming have snuggy type covers on thier new iPad.:)

I had one ipad that was really warm, I gave a try and exchanged it, now it is a bit hot, no problem at all. In addition I use Ghost Armor on it. A bit warm, while in case you don't feel it.

It definitely gets pretty warm after 10+ minutes of use for gaming or internet streaming. It's significantly warmer than any other Apple device I've had. It's winter / early spring so it's only mildly annoying, but I can see that in the heat of summer it may be an issue. It's not burning my hand hot but it's hotter than any hardheld device I've ever owned and it heats up in exactly the place I usually hold it (lower left).

Im amazed anyone is using the term 'hot'. I mean, think about what you are saying, hot? A cup of coffee may be hot but I certainly wouldnt call the back of the iPad hot.

Surely you mean mildly warm > warm?

Hot sounds like quite the exaggeration

Nope, dose not bother me at all.

!!!WARNING TANGENT AHEAD!!!

Going off on a tangent a little. I actually placed my iPad 3 on top of my Time Capsule over night to speed up the glue curing process to fix the yellow tint. When I picked it up in the morning, that was HOT. I have to say that the yellow tint has diminished.

Well, testing indicates that it heats up to around 93 degrees F. That'd be a hot air temperature. Webster dictionary defines "hot" as anything above body temperature - 93 degress is not above that but it's close enough to say it's on the hot side of warm. :D

Did Apple announce that the 10,000th person to start a thread involving "heat of the new iPad" thread receives a gift card? Did I miss the announcement? Maybe my oven mitts were covering my ears.
