Not a good example. The iPod Touch has the strap pin on the lower left which balances the phone and keeps it from rocking.

Incorrect. The "pin" can be pushed and locked into the iPod when not using a strap.

The videos of the iPhone 6 clearly show it rocking when touched while laid on a flat surface.

Do people actually use their phone while it's lying flat on a table? I've never done it, but I suppose it's possible. Obviously, if you don't then this topic is a non-issue.

Even if it did I can't remember the last time I used my phone by placing it down on a surface..and once in a case there is surely no problem at all since the case would be thicker than the amount by which the camera protrudes.

There are many uses, despite your mileage. Compass, level, etc. it's only a few mm.

I am more upset over not being able to set my phone on it's side to take a level movie, or photo or standing my phone upright it's end to take a panoramic movie or photo with the Cycloramic app.

I am actually a little shocked at this.

Even if they added a little incline similar to the MBA to encase the camera it would have been a better option.

Just a simple, small, raised "pimple" on the other top corner would not only have solved this, but also protected the rear surface as it wouldn't touch a flat surface any more.

But then people would have bitched because there is a pointless "pimple" on the back and say "the entire back should sit flat on the surface! GOOD JOB APPLE"

Lol... Not exactly freaking out about this.
Just curious on how Apple and apps that depend on a flat position react. For example, I'm wondering if the compass app (the level part) will compensate for this somehow when used on the 6/6+. Does it assume the 'other' corner is in the air?

(We need a way to refer to the '6 family of phones'. Can't say 6s. At least not after a year. ;) 6's? )

Bad news everyone. As we all expected, it rocks. Video proof:

and water is wet.

it was just a tad obvious it would rock.

As far as software goes, as long as it can be zero'd then it won't be a problem. Pressing the the screen in the upper left will cause it to lose zero however only when holding it that way.

The camera's too close to the edge for the phone to rock back and forth. The bigger issue is it won't rest perpendicular to a surface unless you have a case.

This is the reason I may put my iPhone in a case for the first time ever. I let my 2yr old watch netflix when we are at restaurants.

Does this thing rock back and forth on flat surfaces?

Of course not. Has nobody seen a tripod? Also the glass (sapphire) itself has a metal ring around it that protects it. I don't see any additional to get a case for this phone than for any other past iPhone.

What does a tripod have anything to do with it? The legs of a tripod are all equal lengths. The phone has four corners and one of then is raised. How would it not rock? It's essentially an unleveled table.

One of the video reviews I saw of it... Someone showed that YES it does rock due to this. 40 seconds in. http://www.theverge.com/2014/9/16/6155009/apple-iphone-6-plus-review
