Passcode unlock has been working flawlessly for me, but I've been having trouble with the App Store app not prompting for a scan. I figured out tonight that it won't prompt you to scan if you have the restriction set to require a password immediately for purchases (instead of the 15 minute option).

Now both types of scan are working great. Touch ID is an amazing feature.

It's working great for me but I want it for everything. If I could replace all my passwords with touch ID it would make my life so much easier. I think apple is onto something here.

Works amazingly flawlessly. I switches my pin to a complex alpha numerical code. Now it takes me a second to unlock and it would be pretty hard for some else to get in.

Not working.

It was working flawlessly for me (registered both thumbs and index finger) but started getting unreliable toward the end of the day yesterday. The odd part is that when it works, it works on the first try, when it doesn't, I always end up having to put in a password.

At this point, I only have my right thumb saved as all my fingers now fail to register. My girlfriend was able to register her thumb once, but hasn't been able to register another finger since. I eventually started having an issue where it said failed to register even before placing my finger on the sensor once. I did a restore to see if it was software related and while it fixed the immediate failed to register error, it continues to be problematic. I'm going back to the apple store to test on the floor models and exchange if I can easily register my fingers on those.

sometimes i just unlock my phone for fun just to use the touch ID. yeah im really that lame, shuttup. its fun.

Yup.

I programmed like 6 fingers already. I programmed my pinky so when my hands are dirty I can still unlock the phone quickly.

One thing I noticed is that when you receive a text, and it says "Swipe to reply" it puts me on the 4-digit code screen.
instead of opening the text message, even if I had just unlocked the phone.

the lock is instant the moment u turn off the screen.
ive accidently swiped the swipe to unlock many times (force of habit for 5 years) but you can still use touch id and it'll just populate the passcode for you.

Where do you find that setting?

Scan at the password screen and it will fill it in for you.

I have a fantasy they will make it so I can save my passwords on the browser but it asks for the print to populate. I would also love to scan the finger more things because it works so well.

And there you go. Thanks.

Lol. Yes. I am guilty of just unlocking my phone for fun now. I think my battery hates me. I did figure out though if your fingers are prunes from washing the dishes, it won't work. Lol

I do find it interesting though that passcode is set to immediately and there's no option to change this, I.e to 5 minutes that I have set for my iPad.

Which is fine as touch I'd makes it so much quicker to begin with!

Still a strong showing. For those who voted No or Not Sure, one tip is to make sure you are completely covering the silver ring around the button.

Works a little too well at times. I had the habit of using the home button to activate the screen to see if any notifications came in on the lock screen. With Touch ID on, many times I click the home button and then it also will read my thumb and unlock so fast that I can't see the notifications. But yeah, pretty cool overall.

I've taken to doing time/ notification checks with the lock button instead.

It absolutely works for me. It opens when I use it with my finger and says try again when I have someone else do it. They are always amazed at this point.

Question for you all, how many finger prints have you had your 5s learn? I've done three of mine- left and right thumb and right index finger. These are the ones I will typically use when I unlock my phone.

Same fingers. Instead of adding the rest I've been training it to recognize larger areas of my thumbs, since I find that I tend to hit the button from all different angles and with different parts of the thumb. At this point it can recognize every possible angle and area of my right thumb from tip to down around the first joint.

For anyone out there having trouble, the trick is to sort of "teach" it the map logically; Show it an area it knows, then shift a little in the direction you want it to learn and go again. When that works move again and repeat. As long as it can "see" some pattern it recognizes near the edge of the sensor it seems to be pretty good at integrating the new area of print into its map. You can also work backwards (start with an area it doesn't know and move closer to areas it does know each time). I'm not sure which is more effective, but what I'm doing is clearly working.

My only complaint is that the procedure above would be more easily replaced by an option in settings for additional training using the same system it uses for initial input. Instead of having to teach it using the unlock failure/learning mechanism you could just keep spamming different parts of your finger until it has the whole thing.

Definitely should be replaced; That's not even close to how it should be working. I've never encountered an error registering a new finger, and the unlock works nearly every time (getting better as it learns more angles/areas of the fingers too).

Could be the actual finger-detecting ring that's malfunctioning (telling the sensor a finger is present when it's not). Either way, Apple should swap it assuming there's still replacement stock.

I'm getting a little sloppier with it (forgetting to cover the entire button, for instance), but it is still working the vast majority of the time. I think some of the "no" votes can be attributable to not using it properly. It's a lot easier than previous fingerprint ID systems, but it still requires a proper technique.

Quick update. Swapped my phone today and it is night and day better. I was questioning how I was holding it, etc., but now I am 100% sure it was defective. Hopefully apple sends my phone out to debug.

Working great here. A few times it has not worked but could have been my fault. I'm really impressed with the speed. It's unlocked before I let go of the button! Well done apple, now lets work on ios7's lack of class...

Was working great for me since I got it on release day but recently had been acting up and doesn't rear my finger print and makes me put in a pass code. I believe it's do to the button getting to much oil from my fingers on it but even after wiping it off it doesn't work all the time. Anyone else have this issue?
