Was working great for me since I got it on release day but recently had been acting up and doesn't rear my finger print and makes me put in a pass code. I believe it's do to the button getting to much oil from my fingers on it but even after wiping it off it doesn't work all the time. Anyone else have this issue?

I thought the same thing but when and went into an Apple Store where I'm sure the button is extremely greasy and it worked just fine. Exchange it. I did and it works like it is supposed to.

Quick update. Swapped my phone today and it is night and day better. I was questioning how I was holding it, etc., but now I am 100% sure it was defective. Hopefully apple sends my phone out to debug.

Good to hear. Maybe some of the No and "not sure" votes should have their phones checked out.

Works on my dog too.

I figure i'll only use it for another day or two and then ditch it. If I could get rig of the lockscreen altogether I would like I did on my S3.

Just waiting for a jailbreak.

I keep downloading random crappy apps from the App Store to use it as it works so well to unlock the decide it doesn't even feel like it's there it's like I don't have a passcode. At least I see a prompt when downloading stuff haha

Touch ID is the WORST FEATURE EVER -

Touch ID is the WORST FEATURE EVER - because I put my finger on the home button of my iPad mini and sit and wait. Seconds go by before I realize I'm not holding my iPhone. I didn't want to have to upgrade my mini and probably will if it has Touch ID.

Seriously though, this is GREAT. I can't wait until I can log into Chase, Paypal, eBay and other sites and apps just using my finger(s). Nice job Apple. Way to hit a home run.

Apple knows what it's doing. :D

Had a funny experience with it just now. I think the larger its map gets of an individual finger the more difficult it can get to convince it to add a new print region. The left edge of my right thumb, which I just discovered yesterday I frequently use for the home button, took several minutes of failing/retrying with nearby parts of the finger to stick in its memory. It most likely didn't help that the edge in question is slightly callused from playing the guitar.

I think it might make sense to go back and re-make your finger profile after you figure out where yo use it frequently. Easier to start by training the correct locations than trying to force it to learn those areas later.

They should allow to store passwords in keychain and let keychain have access to Touch ID. Would be so nice to never enter passwords again

Has anyone here re-labeled the fingerprint descriptions? I've taken to doing so as I realized I typically touch the sensor with a different part of my index finger than I had scanned. I hit the 5 print limit and couldn't figure out which one to delete, so I wound up re-scanning 3 of them (I remembered which ones were my thumbs) and labeled them. I think in the future it would be nice if Apple prompted you to relabel them automatically.

Didn't realise you could, I made a note on a piece of paper which one was which finger.

Here's how:

Go into Settings>General>Passcode and Fingerprints. Enter your pass code, select Fingerprints, and hit the edit button. From there you'll see the buttons to delete a fingerprint. Just click on the name (don't delete the print itself) and then the keyboard will pop up.

I have to just say... After 12 hours with the 5S and Touch-ID, it's a deal MAKER!!

For those of you who choose to use a security PAsscode or those that are required due to corporate policies applied to your phone the Touch-ID is the coolest thing ever.

You'll feel it every time you use your phone, it saves time and also is probably 95% accurate!

This is the one feature that makes the 5 -> 5S upgrade worth it!

Now if you don't use a Passcode... Then you would not appreciate how cool it is.

I suspect they will eventually, but they're conservative about making sure it's right, and I'm guessing once they are absolutely sure that there's no stupidly easy hack for it, they'll widen it. Right now, it's limited to things they control, so only they have to deal with the headache if something happens (or people falsely claiming that someone stole their iphone and hacked TouchID and ordered lots of stuff with their keychain).

Its hit and miss, works for a while after setup then does sometimes and then not, after water ie shower/pool seems to be a problem. Have set it up 4 times even with one thumb 3 different prints. I have turned it off too frustrating.

I'm getting the hang of hitting the home button and unlocking at the same time. Sometimes I still get Siri, but it's awesome when I pull it off. :)

so far in the 13 or so hours i've had it, touch id is 100% effective. I reg'd my index finger and thumb and so far it's worked every time, and it doesn't work if I use an unreg'd finger. Flawless thus far. Very impressive I honestly didn't think it would work that well.
