I remember Verizon had an agreement with FCC to have their phones sold unlocked ONLY for SIM part so you could use it with AT&T, T-Mobile and such GSM operators.

I read that this agreement has ended and they no longer have to offer SIM unlocked phones.

Is this true?

If I’m not mistaken, if you purchase the phone directly from Verizon, it will be locked for 60 days and after that it will unlock itself.

But if you purchase directly from the apple store, it remains unlocked

The post above mine is correct. Phones sold through Verizon are locked for 60 days and then are unlocked automatically. You can avoid this by buying direct from Apple.

Or if you smash your phone and get it replaced via applecare+ in that 60 day window, then you get an unlocked phone. Had to do that last year as I dropped my 3 week old 12 pro max onto some rocks on accident and found out the replacement phone is unlocked.

Do you mean if bought from Verizon and activate (CDMA) and then it will unlock the SIM after 60 days? Or just buy and regardless it is activated or not, it will still be unlocked 60 days?

I am asking because there is a local seller and it is Verizon. Don’t know where it was purchased. I plan to use with my Mint SIM.

CDMA is not active anymore on the iPhone as that technology will be phased out by years end. So, the lock pertains to the SIM. Unsure on the eSIM.

Must be activated with Verizon for 60 days.
