The iOS Wifi Sync feature has been Apple's biggest turd since the MobileMe rollout.

I've used it on 4 different iPhones and 2 iPads ever since it came out (so we're talking multiple versions of iOS and multiple versions of Mac OS at this point) and I've also frequently checked on my parent's phones to see how it's doing there.

It has never worked consistently or logically or adhered to any sort of rules. It's the ultimate "screw you, I'll do what I want!" piece of software.

I leave it on since it doesn't really hurt anything, but putting any trust in it is a foolish thing to do. When I need something synced, I always go in and force a manual sync.

I completely agree, apart from the bolded part.

Back when I used wi-fi sync it used to render my iTunes pretty much unusable every time it would search (unsuccesfully, for the most part) for an iDevice in range. My iTunes would just freeze for long seconds and then work fine again, until the next search, which was what about every 1-2 minutes.

I've since diabled this bug-ridden feature and just sync manually.

I use it to upload music to our iPhones. Works most of the time, except sometimes iTunes can't find the iPhones. It shows "Looking for iPhone" for a while and then "ejects" it. Restarting iTunes solves the problem.

Wifi sync works for me, but I'm still having a problem if anyone can help or if anyone else has had this problem.

On my iPhone, when you go to General->iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, My computer (MacBook Pro) comes up twice for some reason. The top one lets me sync (has the time of last sync and 'Apps' written for some reason), whilst the bottom doesn't do say anything and when clicked on gives the message 'To enable Wi-fi syncing with iTunes...'

Thanks

I actually barely ever used it. since it stopped working on my iPhone when I upgraded to iOS 6. Maybe because I got the iPhone 5 and updated to iOS 7. wifi sync started all of a sudden started to work again. Forgot how useful it is.

For me, it hasn't worked neither on my iPhone or iPad since the update to iOS7 and the iTunes version which was released around that time.

Is it working for anyone?

I've tried several things including using an Ethernet cable to generate a laptop based wireless connection and connect my iDevices to that, but it doesn't work under those conditions either.

Works fine for me. Whenever I open up iTunes it picks up my iPhone and iPad and connects to then. I have auto-sync turned off but they still show up, everytime. This is on a Mac with Mavericks.

Works fine for me and doesn't slow down iTunes at all. This is not a widespread issue and is not bug-ridden. I love it how people say that when something doesn't work for them.

To the OP...

I just checked my iPad's setting and it showed that I haven't sync'd for a couple of days. So I hit Sync Now and everything went fine. No big deal I know, but I also checked iTunes on the Mac I WiFi sync to, and it shows my iPad listed on the left as if it is connected (which it isn't). Again, big whoop. However, a couple of days ago I ejected that 'phantom' iPad entry, so...

Maybe that 'phantom' entry needs to be there to auto sync via WiFi. You might wanna check.

Just a FYI

Very temperamental here, I would like to just be able to plug my phone in and know that it will automatically sync to my iTunes in the background, but this only happens about 20% of the time. If I want to sync I have to restart iTunes, and manually tell it to sync on both devices. Easier to just plug it in.

I thought it might be a router issue but recently got an Airport router and still get the same problems.

An update on mine:

It was working and then it wasn't. A fix that worked for me:

-Plug in iPhone
-Open iTunes
-Unselect 'Wi-Fi Sync'
-Apply
-Re-select 'Wi-Fi Sync'
-Apply/Sync

After I unplugged, my iPhone is still showing and it's working great.

As a Windows 7 x64 user I'll simply mention that it is an issue for a lot of Windows 7 x64 users. Whether that is widespread or not is a matter of opinion. ;)

Ok. This is not a widespread issue for Mac users. ;)

Wifi sync is fine except when I'm trying to transfer a file to one of the apps from iTunes - a video to something like VLC, or a comic (like Brian K Vaughan's Private Eye, sold in CBR format) to Comicbook Reader. Often it just loses the device from the iTunes list before the file browser can load and I have to restart iTunes before the iPad or iPhone is available again - I wish there was a reconnect or search for wifi sync devices option

I believe both devices (PC and iPhone) have to be on the same network when you sync. Don't quote me on it but it got it mine to work.
