I find these "I've never ever dropped a call" claims to be absolutely laughable. While I would say that I've dropped a couple less calls on the iPhone 4 than the 3GS the idea that the iPhone doesn't drop calls every now and then is just a lie.

I don't live in the US so maybe this is not relevant but I used the 3g for a year and the 3gs for another year, never one dropped call, I hope it doesn't change with the iPhone 4 if I happen to have it.

Compared to my 3G, it's not even close. The 3g was at least a weekly occurrence (sometimes multiple in a day), the 4 has dropped less than 5 since release day.

I disagree, I live in the Netherlands and the only time I could ever drop a call is if I was traveling in a very low service area. It happened maybe once or twice for me when I was in a train.

1 call drop that I can recall on my iPhone 4 in the past month, since launch day. Drops were a multiple-per-day occurrence with my 3G by comparison. I was launching the "Mark the Spot" AT&T app almost as much as I was the phone app.

I have to laugh when people say they've never dropped a call, on any phone. I cry a hearty bullsh to that. All cell phones on all networks drop calls, especially if you're on the go and tower hopping...or drive into a parking garage...or pass through some interference...or place a call in Cowboys stadium on game day - 5 blazing bars, tons of dropped calls due to network saturation.

I live in the heart of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Most places I go have strong 3G coverage. All my AT&T and Verizon phones drop or have dropped calls.

So far, our two IP4s are dropping fewer than our various 3GS iPhones.

I've dropped 1 call so far on my 4, which is far fewer than my 3G would have managed in the same time period.

No and I don't recall ever dropping a call with my 1G, 3G or 3GS either.

Where do you all live that are dropping calls? Your network must really suck.

Seriously.... Never a dropped call? I had a 2G, 3G, and now and iPhone4. My signal drops at least twice on the way home from my son's preschool. I probably drop 4 calls a day minimum. It would be more but I usually wait until i skip the mile long dead zone by my house. Also, my dead zone is now twice as long as it was. This using Bluetooth, phone in an incipio double case, and not touching the phone at all. I have also exchanged my phone for a new one just to be sure. My other phones dropped calls too but not nearly as many. I live in San Diego. I had a verizon phone first and to be fair, it wasn't perfect either.... Much better but not perfect.

My iPhone 4 has dropped calls every day. I'd say about 30% of my calls are dropped. I had a few dropped calls every now and then with my 3G but nothing like this. I tried calling my local Apple store once to complain but while I was talking to them the call dropped! Hoping the free bumper case will fix the problem.

No - it drops less. But my edge signal is definitely weaker in certain areas where it used to be strong.

However, that may be an AT&T problem since we had some storms that knocked out power lines etc and may have affected a cell tower or two.

Overall I am very happy with the phone coming from a 3G - the battery is amazing, the speed is awesome, the screen is great, and I just got to talk to my mom using facetime and it was pretty cool.

clearly more dropped calls

So, I have had the 2g, 3gs and now the 4. There is no question for me at least, that the 4 drops more calls. Frankly, I didn't really DROP calls with my 3gs and I have REALLY bad reception at my home. Also, I didn't really drop calls at all on my 3gs on the highways here, 280 and 101, but I drop at least ONE call per trip with the iphone 4.

Now, I might have a REALLY bad one. I DID put a case on it, not the bumper but a case and it still has that problem.

Otherwise, the phone is everything I want. But unfortunately, I need the PHONE part to work equally well.

Haven't used my iPhone 4 as a phone to really say. None so far.

I did drop calls on my 2G when I talked on it for too long. Not many though. If the call didn't drop, it would have these echos that my girlfriend at the time would hear after like 4-5 hours on the phone.

But I would go far to say neither iPhones I owned had the clearest reception or voice clarity. That's why I am still partial to Nokia when it comes to voice clarity. They mastered the "phone" part already. I don't recall my Nokia N82 ever dropping calls after using it since January 2008. And if it did drop, probably the other person's fault with their phone or where they were driving to. :D

I have never dropped a call on my iP4 or on my 3GS. Laugh about it if you will but that is the truth. Sorry you don't know how to use a phone.

You say someone doesn't know how to use their phone if a call is dropped. Priceless.

glad

I'm really glad they are giving me a bumper so when I throw MY PHONE at the wall it won't break completely.

Of the three iPhones I've owned (2G, 3GS, iP4) the iP4 drops the least calls (I think I've had one in the 3+weeks I've owned the phone...the GS dropped about a call (maybe two) per week...about the same for the 2G...

This isn't really going to give you an accurate prediction. It's clear that this "issue" is effecting people in weak areas. A better idea might be to ask iphone 4 owners you know in your area. Maybe examine your current ATT coverage.

Personally I haven't dropped a call since launch day. I bumped the phone once and cancelled a call but I was picking up my son so it's hard to blame that on anything but me. I didn't really drop any on my 3G or GS. Sorry this isn't much help, but I really think this is kind of a waste of time for you.

Yes, I've definitely dropped more calls with my iPhone 4 than with my 3GS. It's annoying as hell to be living in such a large city (Los Angeles) and have to deal with this problem.

I have considered leaving AT&T, but I like my phone too much for everything else, plus the hassle of switching. Downgrading to a 3GS just seems dumb. I'm going to wait a little longer.

Just got my phone last Thursday. I haven't dropped a call yet (knock on wood). I'm in Orange County, CA BTW.

Things I have noticed between my 3GS and the 4 besides the hardware:

iPhone4 calls place almost instantly. My 3GS would take 10 to 20 seconds to start the ring process. This was mainly calling my wife on the same network.

Signal has improved. With all the consumer reports crap going around you would think that would happen. I have yet to see the "Searching" in the signal bar. At my parents house, a black hole for reception it has hit 1 bar. I couldn't make calls in the downstairs area of the house.

I have a case on at all times. It's the Incipio Feather. I'm really digging this phone so far!

Not one dropped call. I get the same service, maybe better, than i did with my 3gs, 3g, or original iphone.

Dropped a call 2nd day I had it and was cutting in and out while showing 4 bars.

Put case on phone, have not have a problem since.

If you plan on using a case, you are not going to have issues any worse than other iphones.
