Apple is now listing the Macbook in their refurbished store. (Though it ships in 30 business days!)

That seems to be a record time from releasing a new product to selling it refurbished. Perhaps there have been more returns than has been previously assumed?

None whatsoever. It gets warm, but nothing unbearably hot. I used it in bed for two hours last night and didn't flinch once. No whining. No mooing at all. :)

None with mine. My temp is usually 64c,but went up to 74c when I had 6 programs running at once. Its really hot to the touch. The cows have not visited my macbook.
One thing I don't like is the front edge is very sharp and when I two finger scoll it kind of bothers my hand to let it rest on the front. You will notice on say a think pad it is rounded and smooth. Its more comfortable. Also, go with a bigger than 60gb hardrive.

well, mine gets really hot... but I guess I can live with it (not putting it on lap). Annoying thing is that the lefthand side bulges out a little (about 1mm).

And this evening I upgraded the memory and one of those friggin levers broke off !!!!
The memory is in there and working fine, but one of the levers is just dangling in there... I probably won't need to pull out the memory anymore (2gigs should be enough for its lifecycle), but I wonder if Apple would help me fix this...does upgrading memory yourself void the warranty ?

I must say, we are pretty disappointed with the quality of the Macbook overall :(

I just read about MagSafe ports melting and catching fire and stuff. Scared me a lot, almost made me regret ordering a MacBook.

How many of you have melted MagSafe ports?

There has been TWO reports on this issue. First one was a burned MagSafe-connector, and the other one was burned powercable. Two reports is not that much.

Nothing so far - mind it just arrived in the post this morning and is currently reinstalling OSX to get rid of the excess language packs, drivers etc

Hard drive

Original Balck MacBook - my 80GB Seagate drive failed and I replaced with new 200GB, 7200rpm, Hitachi with fresh install of Leopard. Everything is ok now.

The plastic casing of my black macbook is warped just over the superdrive. every time I have to eject a disc, I need to lift up that little strip so it bends back (thus lifting the entire macbook into a slight tilting position) so the disc will be able to come out. It's very annoying.

anyone else have this problem?

No problems with my Macbook 2,1. Very happy. It is quiet, no dead pixels, etc...:)

New 2.4 MB White...perfect. Runs around 120F, quite a bit cooler than
the old ibook it replaced.

And it is way, way faster! Leopard is cool too.

dvd drive

I have a first gen MacBook with dvd superdrive.
My superdrive is fubar.
Also a small strip of the top cover has come of. It is about 2 mm wide and 8 cm long, at the bottom right starting at the corner and extending towards the mousepad.

Macbook 2.2, white, with 4gb of RAM, runs great. Just above the USB ports the casing ever, ever so slightly lifts up, thats not a big issue.

Mine hits 90c on load which is normal, however one day I tortured the thing with handbrake and it hit 97c, it was a hot day though.

I absolutely love my BlackBook! Last month, I had gone to BestBuy to buy a new Mac, just wasn't sure which one. I wasn't happy with the displays on the MacBook and MacBook Air, they looked washed out, in the store anyways. I saw the iMacs and that made up my mind. I was sold.

I still had the MacBook on my mind. I already owned a MBP but I still wanted another laptop that was different. I went ahead and ordered a BlackBook on the Apple site and had it overnighted. Extremely happy I took the chance.

Not only was the display PERFECT, like all my other Macs, it was 100% perfect! No dead or stuck pixels, no case defects and well, the thing just works.

Apple quality rules. :)

Mine had nothing wrong that I saw. I think 99% of these flaws are nitpicks anyway because people dont understand mass manufacturing of electronics. If they really wanna see imperfections pick up an acer then be thankful for the apple they have.

Mine does not run hot, ever. Its much cooler then all of my windows laptops ( 6 ) and sooooo quiet! I literally never hear the thing ever. Its an amazing machine and my first mac. I love it!.

Superdrive ejection

My MacBook will sometimes not eject the disc.
Took it in to the Genius Bar, aka Grease-Monkey Bar for repair.
Their solution was to use a plastic tire iron to align the case slot with the drive.
Got it home and still having problems.
I commented at the "Genius" bar that this seemed to be a very non-technical fix and suggested they use a claw hammer. The Genius was not moved by my wit.
In my conversation with them, Michigan Avenue Apple here in Chicago, I suggested this was akin to bringing in your BMW with an alignment problem with a door, hood... and the mechanic using a tire iron to adjust the problem, and in the process damaging the paint and metal work.
They did damage the felt wiper with their precision tool and I am a little po'd about it.
I am going in tomorrow, another hour potentially wasted, and I am going to give them an ear full. I won't be satisfied unless they fix it correctly or replace the damn thing.
I am thinking PC again.

I had selected "no defects" in the poll, but just remembered that it did have the random shutdown problem that most if not all of the first generation MacBooks had. Sent it in to Apple, they fixed it and haven't had any problems since then. So, no harm/no foul as far as I am concerned.

Any other issues have just been software related.

Even BMW puts out a few bad apples in every batch... For the most part, Apple QC (in China ) finds the problems before the computer ships. But every now and then something like this will make it through. Hope you get it fixed.

They fixed it, replaced the Superdrive, but they are not too careful with your machine. I don't think that they would have if I hadn't made a stink about it.

Better than I expected though. They could use some work with handling, maybe I should give them some "feedback" since they asked.

How many of you have some kind of defect on your new MacBook, and how many have a "perfect" MacBook, without any defects? I just wanted to ask this before I throw all my money on a laptop, which I wish won't have any major defects.

If your MacBook has any defects, I'd be really happy to know what kind of defects it has.

Thanks for taking your time, storage :).

My "refurb" came mint, I absolutely adore this wonderful machine, 2 more planned in the next two months:D

Mine started off fine but has good downhill and is in need of major major work. All logged with apple care I think there are at least 4 serious issues and 3 minor issues. Oh well when I have time it will get fixed.
