Has anyone else experience this since? I recently (last week) bought the Apple Watch Series 4 44mm Gold Stainless Steel version and this coil whine was noticeable as everyone above has mentioned.

I ended talking to Apple support about it and they suggested this should not be happening and suggested I return it and put another order to get a watch hopefully delivered from a different batch/factory. May this suggests it's a problem specific to where it was made?

Anyway, was wondering that now quite a few more people probably have a series 4, if any more people have noticed this high pitched noise when listening closely to their watch? To see if it's a widespread problem.

Thanks in advance.

Given that it happens on previous models as well, I think it’s a common thing that’s just part of the design. But most people can’t hear it unless they literally stick the watch against their ear, and who does that? Obviously not many people, which is why this isn’t an issue in normal use.

If you can hear it at arm’s length instead of right up against your ear, then it might be an issue.

Thanks for your reply :)

I have had previous S0 and S3 apple watches and they never did this. My personal concern was whether this would deteriorate the functioning of the watch further down the line (aka out of warranty ha).

I'm just wondering if all the S4 do this?

Will keep you updated when my new one gets delivered!

I actually tried this. Its so faint, I could barely here it, and this was in a completely quiet room. Its strange the things others will notice, I think there are those who are more prone to extreme sensitivity to certain noises over others, but I would not have noticed this static noise if it wasn’t for this thread.

I've just checked and if I hold my new S4 (finally found stock of the model I wanted last week, so nice!) against my ear I can hear it, just like with my S2. I suspect they all do it to some extent and that it's normal. If you can only hear it while holding it up against your ear... just stop holding it up against your ear and move on with life :)

Mine does it too. But i'm not worried. My iPhone 7 had the exact same noise when i held the back of the phone to my ear. But it never led to any problems.

My SBSS watch makes very quiet static/beep noise when i bring it close my ears WHILE the screen is turned on. You have to be in a very quiet room to hear this. Is this normal? I'm no engineer so not sure if it's because of bad wire connection..

Mine makes same humming/spinning sound. It drives me crazy. Especially when I wanted to use it at night and I put my hand under my head (my sleeping position). Went today to Apple store as they could not do anything over the phone. At the store they guy was an ass and said he could not hear anything so that’s that. I told him it’s to loud to hear anything in the store and he basically told me to piss of. I walked out pissed with tears in my eyes of Apple treatment. So if he can’t hear it, it doesn’t exist and if he can’t hear it he will not send it for repair or have anyone else to look at it. That’s the service I got from Apple. Oh did I mention I waisted $ on Apple care with this garbage humming watch? My older Apple Watch makes no sound at all! Hopefully Apple gets on this! As it BS! Many people like myself want to wear this junk at night when sleeping and not have a constant noise to listen to!

How could you possibly hear the static noise in a louder environment in an Apple store? Most are hearing this noise in a quiet environment. Unless you’re being facetious, I doubt your post.

The Series 2/3 never Emanated this noise from my experience and I don’t recall ever a thread being raised on this topic.
My original watch made no noise at all. I still have it and it works great.

I hear it on mine but only with it to my head. I have never noticed it in quiet places before this. It is very faint.

I wear my watch to bed sometimes and have never noticed the sound.

This sound for me is from walkie talkie. When I turn off and then on the walkie talkie the sound stops
