I picked up the M65 but can’t get Dolby Vision to work. I think it might be my cable as it’s an older HDMI.

More than likely it is your cable as I have a M65 and DV works perfectly. I am using a 4K/HDR rated cable purchased at Costco. Also be sure to use HDMI1 as that is the only "high speed" port on the M65. One final thing is to be sure to update to the latest firmware on the Vizio. Good luck!

What if you have multiple HDR devices such as ATV4K and XBOX1X? I’m looking for a switcher that will work with 4k hdr. Any recommendations?

I used a new cord and it worked. Dolby Vision content looks amazing. Although i find the menu looks very muted on colour when using the Dolby Vision setting.

I was going to use a switcher until for some reason I had one of my older ones hooked to my m series and unless the power was on for that device my other devices wouldn’t get detected for the tv for some reason

I'm considering this Vizio and am confused on the only 1 HDMI v2.0a input (vs the TCL). I take from this forum that you'll need this input for the ATV4K, but wouldn't I also need another 2.0 port for my TV feed? I realize not much is broadcast in 4K now, but I'm trying to protect for the future. I game with a Switch, so no worries there. But I suppose it would be nice to also protect against a future PS4 or XBOX1. Is this a reason to get the highly rated TCL instead? Any help understanding this is appreciated...

I recently purchased the P55-E1 (which is amazing, btw). Dolby Vision works fine, but the menu looks too dim. I understand that this is something that can be corrected with the new 11.2 update, by turning on the "Match" settings for content and frame rate. But then what should I set the video mode to? I'm not well versed in this stuff. Do I set the video to 4k HDR 60hz with the "Match" settings turned on? Or one of the SDR settings? Thanks for any advice from other Vizio owners.

I just picked up a M65 the other day along with a 4K Apple TV. Mounted it and I'd plugged the HDMI into port 3, so I have to move it to 1 to take advantage of the DV.

I had issues switching to Dolby Vision with my 2016 M series as well. This is what worked for me:

I switch to a different picture setting pre-set on my TV first, and then I switch to Dolby Vision. For some reason, it does not want to switch to DV unless I've switched between a picture settings pre-set (at some point since the TV's been turned on) first.
Kind of luckily for me, I have different picture settings for Dolby Vision that I switch to anyway. So I just need to change to that on my TV before I switch to DV on my Apple TV.

I don't know if it will be the same situation for you, but I hope that works.

Oddly enough I run into this exact same issue. I need to switch to a different picture setting to get Dv to enable. So far it has happened to me twice where i have no picture at all but can hear everything. Really weird.

I have the P65 and HDMI 5 is what they recommend for use with high-performance devices. "HDMI 5 is recommended for use with high-performance devices only. High Velocity Mode is only available for compatible gaming systems or high-performance PC's for display of 2160p @ 60fps." Does this apply to AT4K?

Kind of crazier still -- I think this problem on my Vizio TV has gone away, and I don't remember a firmware update happening anytime recently.

I first noticed that it didn't have the issue any longer after I turned on automatic switching on my Apple TV. I thought that, somehow, automatic switching might be skipping whatever hiccup the TV had been experiencing. But I've just checked a Dolby Vision video on Netflix through the TV's SmartCast input (where, like you, I would have no picture or incredibly dark picture) and it works as it should.

I'm pressing the info button on the remote and confirming that it's displaying Dolby Vision.

I just picked up the M75 over the weekend. It was the exact price I was hoping.

Anybody have a good calibration youtube video to use?

I have an E43u-D2 and an M65-E0 and I used to spend hours with the Digital Essentials DVDs, but now I just use Rtings.com settings and they look marvelous.

Here is the link to the settings they recommend. Technically, you shouldn't use the white balance and color space settings as they vary from set to set, but I think with the digital circuity in these sets, that they don't vary all that much.

Rtings uses high end calibration equipment to calibrate these sets. You may not get it looking exactly like it would if you had the equipment yourself, but it's going to get you a lot closer than winging it with a calibration video or DVD will.

My old (circa 2012) non-smart LG HDTV had a sort of 10-step configuration wizard, where it would display the calibration images and a left-right slider, explaining what to look for in the image and to adjust the slider accordingly. It was actually very handy and worked super well. It's too bad most modern TVs don't have that.

Update: I moved my 4K Apple TV to HDMI port 1. Went into settings and reconfigured for Dolby Vision and it works great.

I have the P55-E1 and it is my understanding that Port5 is the only V1.4 on the TV is that not correct? My Apple TV4k looks terrible when playing anything on Netflix or Amazon

I'm confused but I thought all of the ports were 1.4 on the P55, but that port 5 was reserved just for gaming and things that require fast refresh. I think that means it is actually the least good port for something like the AppleTV. I have mine in port 2 and it looks good.

As far as I know all are 2.0 with the exception of #5 which is 1.4 on the P55-e1. Just got off of chat with Vizio and yes ports 1-4 are 2.0 and port 5 is 1.4 My apple TV is in port 4 and looks terrible, the screen saver is gorgeous but I did not pay $200 for a screen saver :( I ordered another new HDMI cable to see if it will make things better if not I think I am taking this in for an exchange

UpDate: got new hdmi cable and reset ATV and the picture is now Awesome! I thoroughly recommend Atevon HDMI cable(Amazon)

I just picked up a M65-E0 from Sam's Club. I've connected my ATV to HDMI 1, and enabled that deep color setting on the HDMI 1 port on the Vizio.

It will not work for DV @ 4K. It just flickers endlessly, or will show me a picture with lots of static or flickering.

I can get it to do HDR10 @ 4K, but DV simply refuses. It will work for DV @ 1080p, but hell I'm not doing that!

If I use the Netflix app built into the Vizio, then I can get DV to work... but I use the ATV for everything, so I'd prefer for it to actually work.

I just called Vizio customer service, and the guy on the phone just told me that there's a known issue with the Apple TV 4K not working with DV @ 4K over HDMI 1. A firmware is apparently in the works with no ETA. I'm on firmware 4.0.23.2

How is it possible that some of you are getting this to work???

UPDATE: I called Vizio support again and got someone easier to communicate with... she had no idea about the apple tv issue. And even more strange, even with the ATV set to HDR10 @ 4K, it switched over to DV @ 4K when I played a Netflix show that supported DV. When I stopped that show and returned to the Netflix menu, the screen flashed and it switched back to HDR10 @ 4K. So I have no idea how it (kind of) has started working all of a sudden.

It is your HDMI cable.

I have the same TV in the bedroom (don't get me started on how ridiculous that is i know) and it did the same behaviour until i purchased a new HDMI cable. I got the amazons basics one and it works flawlessly (its pretty much all i ever buy for HDMI cables)

@shaftastic What he said, except get a monoprice cable instead. Don't support the evil empire when you don't have to :D

There should be a sticky in this forum that says "If you just got the Apple TV 4k and are having issues with HDR / DV / 4:4:4, make sure you have an HDMI cable that is known to support 18Gbps. When in doubt, just spend the $5 and get a new cable."

Yup it was the cable. I switched it out and all is well. Not sure about the chroma 4:4:4, does the m65 support that over hdmi1?

My m-series vizio supports it, but I don't bother. I don't know of any content that actually has that chroma, so why bother at this point?
