Who should buy the iPad Pro 9.7? People who are using android tablets, people who are using iPad 1, people who recently bought the iPad Pro 12.9 but regretted, people who don't have a tablet and rich people who just wants the latest and greatest. Nothing to do with the Apple Pencil IMHO.

Increased OS overhead is a factor and that can be CPU, GPU, RAM, storage or any combination of the four. Another thing, a number of the "apps" tested in the video are embedded into the OS. It's quite possible that the versions of apps embedded into newer iOS firmware are more resource-hungry compared to ones on older iOS. Mind, if you go back to when he ran Geekbench in the video, scores are actually pretty close across all firmware versions.

The reason I am not convince CPU is the main factor of lagging in newer IOS because I have both a ipad 4 and ipad air. Both running on 1G ram. As far as performance goes, they run equally bad on iOS 9, although ipad air have a much faster CPU.

To illustrate CPU is not the factor, here is the video on iphone 4S (iOS 9) vs iphone 4 (iOS 7). Both having 512Mb of ram, but 4S is significantly faster on the CPU.

To make the long story short, given both having the same amount of ram, the iphone 4 running iOS 7 with a slower CPU runs smoother and faster than the iphone 4S on iOS 9 with a faster CPU.

My whole reason in buying the Pro 9.7 as an upgrade from my Air 1 was that I consume a TON of media on my iPad. When I stay at my fiancé's house, I don't have any of my movies or tv shows. She has regular cable and no computer. I got so tired of having to lay in bed and cup my hand behind the damn speaker so I could hear it.

In terms of what I feel like I got personally...extremely better screen quality and unbelievably better sound quality.

I have no use for the pencil or the keyboard, but the minute I heard the rumors of 4 speakers like the larger Pro, I was definitely in if Apple made it that way. Once that was official I knew I was upgrading.

The problem is, you've already said that you don't think photography and sound improvements are useful. So, YOUR opinion is that it isn't worth the upgrade. And for YOU, that's fine; don't upgrade.

But for me, and lots of other people: better sound and improved screens/photography are absolutely better AND justify the higher price. The wider color gamut on the Pro screen IS better for photography and videography than the Air 2. And for me, the improved speakers are definitely worth the upgrade.

And even if you're not getting the Pencil or Smart Keyboard today, getting an Air 2 completely shuts out that possibility unless you want to spend again on an upgrade mid-cycle.

The 9.7 Pro isn't for everyone, but that doesn't mean a blanket statement like yours is valid or true, either.

That's not a valid comparison. Both the 4 and 4S should have been running iOS 7. Indeed, an earlier video you posted showed the iPhone 4S running faster on iOS 7 than on iOS 9. When you're testing, you want to keep all other variables constant as much as possible.

As for iPad Air vs 4, I also have both and comparing them side by side (loading webpages, etc), the Air is faster than the 4 although the former is more prone to out of memory crashes and Safari tab refreshes. Either that or I'm just more exposed to out of memory issues with the Air because I use it more often as it's considerably faster than the 4.

Make sure you post a thread commanding everyone to return theirs too.
*unless you are going to use the pencil, then you have permission to keep it.

Each people has to choose between buying it or not, by themselves ..
My experience: My parents have give me their ipad air 2 to compare with the pro, and now my opinion is more solid. The differences between both screens is much less obvious than original air/air 2 was, because in that case, the full laminated display (withouth air gap) was a substantial upgrade. The true tone is only noticiable is you change your ambient light tone drastically, and yes, if you're a pro (the kind of people that this ipad is designed for) with photos or videos, you have to turn it off to see real colours.
About speakers, night and day, a very important change. I hope they will upgrade the ipad mini to that speaker configuration too. But, if you use a good pair of (wireless) headphones, you're always going to get better sound quality.
About performance...higher than before, but as you could expect with a new generation device. The increase was more impressive between original air and air 2.
So... Basically, the higher price tag start is not justified, it should start at 499$ with 32gb ram. And, yes, only if your going to use the pencil (only the thing that makes this ipad more pro than air 2), you're going to get the most of this product. Depending on the sales, i think Apple would return to old price tag

I think it's cool I upgraded my mum from the worst iPad ever made to the best iPad ever made. That's the iPad 3 to the iPad Pro 9.7".

I think it's cool that you upgraded your mum to the iPad Pro 9.7 period. I hope she loves it!

haha yeah, she better do. She didn't have a issue with her iPad 3, i did overtime I wee to update anything on it! So slow and laggy. She likes the new speakers plus it's so much lighter too. I only got the 32GB one.

I have the 32GB also and it's more than enough for me. I love everything about the new 9.7 iPad Pro.
