I was at the Genius bar on Sunday getting my iPhone 5 replaced (dust trapped in the camera...walked out with a nicely new (refurbished) iPhone 5. While I was waiting and the tech was trying to clean out my camera (got all but one big spot out, thus the replacement), I heard another 'genius' talking to a customer with a 3Gs right next to me. Her touch screen had started going wonky, and he told her the repair price for out of warranty repair, then told her it might make more sense to upgrade instead. (I agree)....and then started talking about the 5 vs 4S vs 4 and the pricing...she said she was interested. The guy left to go get some stuff, and I leaned over and simply said....BTW, the new iPhone will be announced on Tuesday, so you may want to wait a bit, since even if you want a 5, it'll be cheaper....

The Apple guys may not have been happy, but I had to save a customer from instant regret. :)

It's funny you mentioned this because I just noticed this on my iphone 5 yesterday in pictures I had taken.. I guess I will have to bring it in!

those that buy an iphone 5 today wouldn't know there was a new one coming out tomorrow anyway...

I bought one two weeks ago for my wife, knowing full well what happens tomorrow. It's a case of there's money for it then or no money for any phone now. And my wife didn't want to wait another month.

So…we got her an iPhone 5.

Psssh, worst husband evaaaa :p

Sure…:)

64GB and it came with iOS 6.0.1, which meant it was jailbroken shortly afterwards. Which means I get husband of the year award for removing all the little iOS irritants (like auto correct). ;)

:D

To whom is this admonition directed?

No. Maybe you people who are on macrumors will tell your friends not to buy one. This thread could save a bad purchase! I am committed to this thread making a difference in the lives of uninformed Apple purchasers.

Do uninformed Apple purchasers read this Forum?

Do the informed friends of uninformed Apple purchasers who read this Forum need to be told to inform their uninformed friends that a new iteration is soon to appear?

How will this thread make a difference in the lives of uniformed Apple purchasers?

If the phone is announced tomorrow and released on the 20th, that's 10 days which is 4 days (or more depending on location) leeway for those that just bought a device recently. Gives them a chance to swap.

So if u walk into Verizon today to buy one and the salesperson fails to warn you about tomorrow, is it his fault?

There are always people out there who have no idea that a new phone is coming out because they don't visit forums like this. We hear about it each and every year.

I've heard about the new iPhones on my local news beginning at 5AM this morning and even on the newscast at 5PM. They'll tell about it again on the newscast at 6 and again at 10 and yet people will still have no idea and go and buy a new 5 or 4S tonight.

I don't think you will find any of those people here....

Funny. Seems like after every launch....MBA, MBP, iPad, iPhone....there's always someone wondering what their recourse is because they bought the 'old' model ;)

The challenge is that the new iPhones may not be immediately available tomorrow but a couple/few weeks from now.

I think that's assumed. Still a person could return their current purchase and wait it out. These days, Apple's announcements and 'gatherings' garner national news attention. NBC, CNN, HLN...they all talk about it and have the last couple of years, essentially since the massive success of the original

The term preaching to the choir comes to mind :)

Most people here won't buy a new phone, just because they know about it. Many consumers don't have their finger on the technical news pulse so they're possibly unaware

Again, see above. Not to mention the iPhone being a once a year update I would venture to guess most folks have a friend who knows a buddy that has clued them into the release schedule. OR, the 'other' group of the population that could care less and need their phone now, are taking advantage of the $50 off sales or maybe like you say....are just ignorant to the pulse of technology. Though these days with Apple's popularity and the excitement that surrounds the release of each (and now the same time of year release) most folks that follow news of any sort are at least glancing and 'seeing' some bozo camped out in NYC 11 days before its release. ;)

I was just thinking how tragic it would be if someone bought a new iphone today, the day before the announcement of the next model.

Of course, some people wouldn't really care if they had the latest and greatest, but I'm thinking more in terms of price - because you probably can save yourself some money on an iphone 5 or 4S in a few days...

If you bought an iphone today, tell us why!

I guess there are people who are just walking around a mall, walk into an apple store, and just on a whim, buy an iphone...without knowing anything about the announcement.

I don't think anybody here would've figured out this amazing info if it weren't for you OP...

You can turn autocorrect off w/out a jb. ;)
Well, that wasn't the main reason for jailbreaking, but I'm interested. Where do I turn it off?

Both my wife and I have the ManualCorrect tweak so we can keep typing and only select the correction if we need it, instead of the other way 'round.

I turned it off the first few months when I gave my mother an iPhone. Now she is running 2 keyboards. If I remember correctly you go to: settings>general>keyboard>auto-correction OFF and I think also check spelling OFF, either it was both or just auto-correct off. I think if you leave check spelling on it might be the same as the tweak don't really know.

Announcement is tomorrow, but the actual release is on the 20th. That's 11 days from now. That being said, unless you stay up late to pre order (and hope the site doesn't crash) or you line up in the morning, there's a big chance you can't get your hands on a new iPhone for weeks, even months. Some people can't wait.

So if u walk into Verizon today to buy one and the salesperson fails to warn you about tomorrow, is it his fault?

So a salesperson is suppose to warn a potential customer about an announcement that hasn't even happened?
