Your going to buy a Power Mac eh? Will you be going back in your time machine to the 1990s?

Actually that's a good point. I was just thinking about how dated that line is now. If I get the store credit, I'm not really sure what I'll do with it, to be honest. I wouldn't want an iMac either, because I fear for the same display issues, and the whole idea of a built-in display that costs a gazillion dollars to replace is getting less and less appealing. I did, after all, have those bad burn-in issues with my previous iMac, and I've had other iMacs with dead pixel issues as well.

Considering the last one was made in August 2006 you would be hard pressed to get one with an in store credit.

May I suggest a Mac Pro if you want an expandable workstation.

Just hold onto your store credit and wait for the new redeisgned Mac Pro to come out... it's the successor of the PowerMac anyway. You could always buy one of the current ones which is a year old also.

To add to or story, it was just a bad experience. I bought a retina MacBook Pro on Thursday and so far I love it. I haven't had any problems or noticed any screen tint or dead pixels, but the pixels I would just ignore.

Apple replaced a screen on a late 09 21" iMac for me a few months ago for $0.00. Was 28 months out of Warranty. Just by mentioning it on the phone when i rang up about a dead Airport Express. Replaced it too. No complaints here.

One of the advantages of living a 7 hour drive from a Apple store you don't have to deal with geniuses. Phone support is much more helpful.

We also have a 15" mbpr and a 13mbpr both perfect. Just bad luck op.

I am sorry to hear of your troubles, and DO hope things get worked out in a better fashion somehow.. I have had 4x MBPs since Apr-06 and have had nothing but great service on any issues that popped up.. Apple has never let me down here in Western Canada..

That being said, I did not see you mention WHERE you had bought your computer from, not that it really should matter, but was it an APPLE Store, or an Major Retailer, Authorized Seller..?? There are a few places up here that I would not generally prefer to deal with, but that is just my preference from 'other than Apple' dealings.. Good Luck there!! :apple:

Hi everyone,

I have just had my LG screen (with bad IR and two clusters of dead pixels) replaced under warranty. I now have a Samsung screen. And while it is more yellow than my previous screen, I'm very relieved the IR is gone. That was way more annoying.

In fact, this thread here has a color profile that really worked for me. I have no issues now and the colors look just as good (IMHO).

Hope it can be of some help...

You can definitely go elsewhere for your products. Be sure to report back when you have issues and tell us of the service you received.

Please no, then we'll have to read his wall of pointless complaints about that company as well!

Happy rMBP user checking in here. 1 month after purchasing the computer I noticed a dead pixel. I made an appointment at the Apple Store, took it in, and was given the option of having it shipped out or fixed in the store. I decided to have it shipped out as the genius explained that the people in the store fixing computers are from the genius bar and working the late shift. 5 days later I got a call to pick up my computer. Everything was fixed and working 100%. 1 year, 2 months later I still love this computer. Please know that your bad experience doesn't reflect all of Apple. A good thing to do is to write Tim Cook or write about your experience on the feedback section of Apple's website located here. Best of luck to you :).

Edit:
If you can find a tech company with better customer service than Apple, please let me know as I have yet to find one. Good luck dealing with call centers when the new non-Apple products you are going to buy need servicing.

I like this one and agree with them

Never let them fix a computer in its return period...get another.

Exactly. And use that 14 day window to look over the computer like a hawk for any defects.

What a miserable experience for the OP. I think I'd have insisted on an exchange or return sooner in the process. Not second guessing. It's just that I can't tolerate repairs on a new computer. My OCD. It would never feel the same. Just replace it.

You do know that TV's on display in stores have jacked colors to POP in the store. You should not use your TV at home with the same settings. Normally you will have to make the picture warmer.

I wonder if this has anything to do with this.... ;)

Many people bought rMBP 15 with no problem out of the box. Consider yourself... unlucky?

Not a matter of luck, actually, the OP spent a good penny on the machine and is being tossed around. The company puts on a great face on camera in their slick ads at WWDCs, showing off their latest & greatest, while on the ground level they are complete imbeciles just like any other half-wit-worthless consumer products company.

Just because this company looks slick and has hipster following doesn't translate to good customer service, experts nor repair, obviously noted by this OP and many, many other people. Just because not a lot of people spend time on the internet to seek resolve for their problems doesn't mean that people who do are "unlucky". Luck has nothing to do with it if the company has poor practices on the ground level dealing with customers, period.

I sympathize for your experience.

Here's the deal over on Apple Support board. People are complaining about image retention the rMBP with LG screens. There's a thread a mile long, and they all want Samsung screens because they aren't supposed to have IR. People get the Samsung screen replacement, and then complain it has a yellowish tint, and less saturated colors. Most people on that board say they get the screen calibrated just fine, but there are a few that simply want their money back. This thread is about 600 posts long, and they say that Apple is only using Samsung screens as replacements for screens that fail the IR test. Supposedly the 2013 rMBP has a different LG screen, with a 2 at the end of its model code. My 2013 rMBP works like a dream, so......

Uh here's post 38 lol.

Screens are only being replaced with Samsung but they are manufacturing with assumably what's left of the SJA2 (lg rev 2) stock

I know many who are enjoying their rMBP's, so it's unfortunate that you have had such a bad experience with Apple.

You should send them a message with the same you wrote here.

Also, if you have sensitive files, you should enable Filevault 2 in Security in settings. It's really great (AES encryption), and doesn't slow down your system (not noticeable!). I use it on all my Macs :) It's nice to know that your data is relatively save.

I'm not going to buy a professional color calibration kit on top of a $3,000 machine. It should look like the machines on display out of the box, period.

100% agree with this statement.
If it was any different I would be returning it as well!

Im with the OP on this one. When shelling out so much money on a machine, you expect the best. The best as Apple promise. If you dont receive that, then you havent received what you have paid for. I too would be complaining to Apple, rather then having to buy calibration kits, or having to put up with something that is clearly a defect - especially since Apple are clearly admitting a defect in the OP's case.

Then shut up, don't buy it and stop complaining.

It's imposible for Apple to calibrate them. Every single screen it's slightly different and has to be calibrated individually.
I had 2 27-inch Dell monitors, i bought them at the same time, same model, same panel, same rev., but i had to calibrate them individually. Same settings would look different.

However, there are professional displays that are calibrated from the factory, they cost much much more than a Apple/Dell screen and they come with a colorimeter, because guess what... you have to calibrate them from time to time, so another reason you need to have a colorimeter if you want good colour reproduction...

I really feel sorry for Apple to have to deal with such customers. :(

Nonsense. Apple does calibrate every screen individually with a radial spectrometer, that's part of what you're paying for with these $2500+ computers. It's clear that they didn't bother with the individual calibration with the replacements -- likely because the displays on new computers are calibrated in China.

Regardless, it's on Apple to do this, not the OP. OP paid a ridiculous sum of money for a "Pro" computer with a professionally calibrated screen. The screen was replaced with an inferior one. It's on Apple to rectify that. The end.

This is most likely the case. My brand new 2012 model and all of the demos I have seen at Apple Stores, Best Buys and Future Shops with Samsung displays had bluish whites yet all of the replacements have been yellow.

Bla bla bla... You are bragging with your dream rMBP and showing 0 empathy... Many people had issues with their dream rMBP... I read some other pathetic posts in this threads... It seems there are some sado people who enjoy seeing others suffering... Wait your turn... Life is an echo of you actions... You'll feel the boomerang effect...

Seems you issue is not with Apple but with incompetent staff at a particular Apple store. As to the rest... if one would base their decision on such reviews, then one should avoid buying ANY product from ANY brands. Bad luck happens. Next time just be more smarter and demand a new machine earlier.

P.S. have had my rMBP since the month it launched and the laptop has no problems at all. Zero. Same with two of mine coworkers. That is if you are interested in some anecdotal evidence :p

You might read that into my comments, but you might be wrong. I'm glad that my dream machine isn't displaying any signs of IR, and I've been checking. My post was meant to relay what's been hotly discussed on another forum. I don't want to feed the fear, but there was supposed to be a hearing regarding this issue a day or two ago, as someone is suing Apple over the IR issue.

I'm subscribed to the thread on the other forum, and get a dozen emails each day. Most posters are reporting that Apple is replacing the LG screens if they fail Apple's 3 minute test. Some like the warmer color of the Samsung screen, and others lament the loss of their otherwise fine LG screen. Some have Apple calibrate the Samsung screen to look more like the LG, and others just accept it for what it is.

Bla, bla, bla, yourself ;) :D

some people get rmbp problems..
And you're one of unlucky customers (I know it sucks).
I bought a refurb rmbp from apple before. It got a noise problem after using it for a week.. I decided to return it, waiting for almost 2 weeks to get my money back. Then I bought a used rmbp 15" from ebay (w/out box) for $2100.
Work like a charm! No problems for 2 weeks now. I got SAJ1 screen, but no IR problem yet.

I think if you buy another rmbp, you might be a lucky one who get a notebook without any problems.

I went back today and, surprise surprise, they had yet another yellow screen for me.

I talked to manager, and he tried to convince me that it was all in my head. I walked him over to a display model and showed him how much duller the colors on mine were, and he started telling me that he saw the difference, but that it was actually the display model that was broken. I told him "Well, then all of your display models in the store have bad colors, you should get on that." He replied "That might be your perception, I think they're fine."

I wanted to scream "BUT YOU JUST SAID THAT THIS DISPLAY MODEL WASN'T FINE! AND IT'S PLAIN TO SEE THAT ALL OF YOUR DISPLAY MODELS ARE THE SAME! LOGIC DUDE! BASIC LOGIC!"

I complained that my yellow display was clearly from a different manufacture, and I opened up a terminal on each machine, ran a program to pull out the display maker, and showed him that mine was a Samsung while the store model was an LG. His response was "all of our displays are of from the same line."

Either he was just that clueless, or he was flat out trying to perpetuate a lie.

I demanded a full refund for for the machine, and I got it. They put all $3,000 back onto my debit card, and I gave back the machine.

I'm somewhat sad though. I really did enjoy that machine when it had a proper display, before all of the repairs.

I'm putting together a machine to run FreeBSD on now, with the refunded money. I'll probably never buy anything major from Apple ever again.

I don't appreciate being mislead about what parts are in my $3,000 computer; #$%* you Apple, #$%* you.

Yeah, but what happens if the screen breaks again? I did have a good one, the problem is that their whole batch of repair screens is of lower quality than what they ship in the original boxes.
