Well unfortunately some of us arent in the position to spend hundreds of dollars/pounds on the newest igadget, whilst our old toys are discarded to the technology inept family members.

'Old used tech' is some peoples gold, and with a bit of creativity can be used to undertake some tasks that modern technology can anyway....

So just bear in mind, Ill be the one smirking when my 4 month old £330 pound original iPad performs all the tasks I want, whilst you've paid out £800+ for two iPads, the newest of which will offer nothing but a slightly better screen, a bit more processing power, and a rubbish couple of cameras for facetime (which no-one i know uses anyway).....

Just admit, you only want one to show your freinds anyway, if you really want to be levitated to the heights of tech god amongst your social circle, do something creative like invent an internet meme, its free, and it will probably last longer than your bit of smug self satisfaction in a white box will.
Haha! Your resentment and jealousy are out in force eh?! Smirk all you like kid, money does not motivate or affect me in the way that it clearly does with you. I have my limits like anybody, but I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford nice things in life when I want them without having to worry about a few hundred quid here or there. I certainly don't have to apologise for my current financial position that I worked hard to get to over the last 10 years.

See, you seem to think it's about impressing friends - most of my friends have an iPad and plan on upgrading too...how is that impressive? I like having new stuff, and you clearly can't handle that. Too bad, so sad.

he has money to throw around
Within limits, yep.

he has money to throw because he lives with his parents
Nope. They live close to me though in a house I bought for them. Got a problem with that?

Jealousy doesnt come into this at all mate...... If I thought the new model would be any benefit, I'd buy it, but it wont, so I wont waste my money. The only reason your bringing jealousy into this is because you clearly want to be the object of desire. All of your freinds have the ipad? That'll be why your so keen on getting the new model then ;)

Its not the notion that you want the new model it's the condescending notion of 'enjoy your old used tech' that you put across, your basically implying that you are a better person that people who don't go out and buy the new models straight away, and thats what I found inherently annoying.

Of course I don't think you'll understand my point, because you'll just be too busy sitting there furiously 'massage' yourself over the various rumor sites that are making pie in the sky predictions about the iPad 2 hardware, barely any of which will come to fruition, but in your quest for iNirvana I'm sure we can count on you to be first in the queue for a bit of whooping and hi-fiving as apple rolls out a half arsed attempt at an upgrade.

Whats the betting you start a thread about a day or two after it comes out complaining its not as good as you were expecting, or you'll starting a thread pointing out that you have one of the first, which will just amount to basically willy waving.

P.S. Please don't call me kid, again its condescending.

I sold my 3G 32gb iPad (for £552 on eBay ;) the moment the 11" MBA launched. This isn't a diss on the iPad - the iPad is a very nice piece of kit and serves a different purpose really, but the 11" mba was the ultra portable I've always dreamt of and I knew I'd barely use the iPad once I'd got the mba.

Thing is, I might have kept my iPad for fun purposes but I knew at the time - last November - that it was sell it immediately or keep it. I'd have had no problem with the value of it dropping on the eve of iPad 2, but only if I was actually using it which I suspect I wouldn't have given that my mba is barely out of my sight.

I really miss it for comic and manga reading though, but sitting on a £500+ device for that purpose alone would have been plain silly. I've tried reading them on my mba in portrait but I can never hold it comfortably for any period of time.

I confess, in the unlikely event that the iPad 2 sees a significant res bump next week, I'd be extremely tempted to buy the smallest gb wifi version.

I just put my iPad 16GB WiFi on eBay for $349 (£255). Already have a bid. Comes with an Incase Convertible Book Jacket as well.

I will definitely be getting the iPad 2 day one. It's useful for me for school at the moment, and I like to stay updated on all Apple gadgets.

Don't worry about Gryzor too much. I have known a few people like him in my life. While he acts nonchalant in throwing about casual put-downs to make himself feel better, it is only because of his profound insecurities. And his insecurities are well-founded, because he is an *******, and everyone knows it and makes fun of him behind his back.

By all means, continue making fun of his abrasiveness and profound lack of self-awareness, but please, feel at least a little sorry for him while you do it. He can't help it. His parents undoubtedly told him he was God's Gift to Mankind, and he has slowly been realizing over the past 20 years that he is rather average.

OP, it's going to be YOUR iPad, so do what you want. I just bought my iPad 32GB WiFi/3G this month for $804 OTD USD and I've got my sights on the iPad 2 & iPad 3 and will sell my original iPad for whatever I can get for it...

Convenient!

Oh and for the record, I don't think anyone was criticising you for being able to afford a new iPad...

People were criticising you for being a jackass.

Good for you, I hope you enjoy your old, used tech. I'll just give my old iPad to a family member and will bag a new, improved, lighter, slimmer, faster, more feature-packed iPad 2 when it launches. Sticking to old technology a year after it launches just to save a couple of hundred notes really isn't a priority for me. Each unto their own...thankfully.

Seriously?!... This guy has to be a wind up merchant. Why on earth would you comment like this unless your intent was to upset and intimidate the thread starter. I just cant fathom why people do this - what inner demons are they fighting that makes them act like this.

I mean come on - this just isnt right. Do you send pictures of yourself surrounded by food to starving children in Africa? Do you walk up to homeless people and show them the cash in your wallet?... Perhaps you like to give land mine victims a flash of your legs.

This guy is pathetic... If he is for real I truly feel sorry for his family and anyone else that has to be around him.

What a horrible specimen of man kind.

Great level-headed response - and the bolded is clearly the key point.

Anyway, buying a used iPad makes sense if you are the type who treats their devices roughly and feels uncomfortable with brand new, expensive equipment. I personally feel much more comfortable handling my used iPhone 3G rather than my new iPhone 4 which I lost after only 5 months.

Or people who aren't stupid with their money jumping on every new bandwagon so they have the requisite starbucks cred. Buying barely used technology makes a lot of sense, you profit off the lust and idiocy of those who always have to have the newest thing.

It has nothing to do with being uncomfortable brand new expensive equipment. Here is a hint, if you consider it expensive and as such handle it differently then it is too expensive for you.

I am always amazed at how much people will spend to have some things. I read a recent story where people of certain income levels pay an exaggerated amount of the income in categories others with far more don't or won't. It is all about mindset. Too many buy them for perceived status, which is sad if a toy confers that.

Yeah I agree - very well said... Eveyone should be treated the same - no matter colour, creed, sex, age, etc.. and what ipad you choose to buy!

I really feel sorry for Gryzors family... Just imagine the pain, suffering and hassell his daughter goes through on a daily basis to get that ipad.

Glad I sold my iPad 1 a month ago. Used a 64g WiFi model for 7 months for around $75 considering my selling price. Not a bad "rental" fee.

^ This. I entered into and quickly left the "I need to upgrade each time" phase. I kept my PowerBook for 3 years before I went and got my MP, which I still have and love. Sure, I am certain there is something faster than my 2008 octo, but this has not yet failed me and the power is actually wasted on me a lot of the time. I do work on a 2.4 2 gb ram windows PC on a day to day basis so the MP, hell, even the iPad seems better!

The new iPad may or may not make it into my home, but frankly, if someone feels as though I'm less than they are for what I don't have then I pity them and their sad life.
