Last I heard you have to call and talk to a person to refund remaining AppleCare. Don't see myself ever doing that.

Same here. The person I spoke with was very nice, and got it done quickly.

I did it while I was preparing dinner so it's not like it took any time out of my day. Unless someone just has a phobia about interacting with other people over the phone, it's a very simple process. Just have your old watch serial number handy.
