Don't like the iPhone 4, won't like the iPhone 5 - what should I do?

If you want to wait for the iphone 6, get an android. You can get those on a one year contract extension, and then get an iphone 6. After you deal with an android for a year, you will be so happy to go back to an iphone. Actually they are not too bad. I had a droid X and there are some good things with the phone. Easy to use as a free wifi hotspot without hacking, great voice quality, but horrible moto blur software.

As far as the iphone 4, yes there are issues such as antenna and glass breakage, but I have a case on my phone to rectify both issues. As far as call quality, I have had no problems. Love the screen which is better than any android phone. Battery life is better than most androids, although the droid X wins there. And the apps seem less flakey than what you get from the android market. No qc on the droid apps, so you can end up with more issues with their apps and resultant headaches.

iPhone 5 is not out or announced. Rumors are rumors.

Agreed. No one knows what the next iPhone will be like nor what the next version of iOS will be like for sure. I would wait and see what is announced before making any decisions.

Ok - that's worth knowing. Wasn't sure if Blackberrys, Samsungs etc. came with some sort of Mac software.

They don't come with software to sync to macs but you get buy it separately. I have used The Missing Sync to sync my Windows Mobile & Blackberry phones to my iMac and it works great. It isn't free, though.

I am in the same boat as the OP.

I pre-ordered a Samsung Galaxy S2, so i have enough to play with, until iPhone 5 or 6 comes out.
Then i will see, if i go back to Apple or stay with Android.

Sorry, I don't usually do/say this, but...what a ridiculous thread! You come out say you don't like the iPhone 4, and probably won't like the iPhone 5. You've made up your mind. The choices are easy, go Android, WP7, or BB. The latter is a dead-end, IMHO...

OP wasn't asking for advice, he was inquiring about other people's plans.

I know I'm not the only one that has a 3GS and decided to skip the iPhone 4. With rumours that the iPhone 5 will be the same, I'm inclined to not get that either.

I like my iPhone and, obviously, like how is syncs with my Mac, but don't like the iPhone 4 and won't like/want the iPhone 5. However, I could really do with a new phone.

If you're in the same situation, what are your plans?

(Looking forward to all the "If you don't like it, don't get it - see if we care" answers, but would really appreciate some honest suggestions).

The exciting new cutting edge Galaxy S2, will be mine the moment its released.

Check out this beauty

my better half wont swap out her 3GS for an iphone 4 like mine, she doesnt like the design at all? well shes entitled to her own opinion but i guess she will keep hers until they release a new style.

the Iphone 4 is plenty fast enough for what i need and the only thing that would make me buy a new Iphone would be an update on the screen or overall design etc.

id wait and see FYI

Someone else on this thread suggested the S2 - looked into it and like what I see. Can't find a couple of bits of info - maybe you've had more luck.

When's it out (in the UK)?
How would you sync music and movies onto it from a Mac/iTunes?

For the first time in three years, I'm excited about getting a new phone!

If its the price you dont like, try getting a other android phone from somewhere likes mobiles.co.uk, sell that and buy an iPhone 4 off ebay.

This is what I did...

25 month orange contract, free HTC incredible S, 3 months free line rental, £50 cash back (http://www.quidco.com/user/513872/mobiles-co-uk/email)

Which is £475 before selling the HTC. Sold that for £425 and bought iPHone for £400. Making it effectively £450 for the 2 year contract. Sell iPhone 3GS for around £200, making 2 years of iPhone 4 contract ariund £250 which is roughly £10 a month.

If its the glasa and sharp edges you dont like, then get something like the incipio feather case, still thinner than the 3GS, comofrtable to hold and much better looking IMO.

Why in the world would you ALREADY say you won't like the iPhone 5?

This thread was created WAY too early. Wait until the iPhone 5 comes out, then make your decision on upgrading, if you can wait that long.

The 3GS was a powerful phone when it was released, it still is. For what it's worth, Apple has a reputation to uphold. They just smashed their quarterly quota. They will def have something for us come WWDC. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!

Because I'm very confident, regardless of the rumours, that the next iPhone will be the same thing again. People say the iPhone 4 was a complete redesign but, in my opinion, every iPhone has been essentially the same. And every release of iOS has disappointed me, so I want to try something else.

Well, there you have it. It seems to me-you have your mind made up. If you are completely open to a new phone/carrier, try the Evo! :)

Otherwise, go with a droid or jitterbug and let us know how that goes! :D

I think you've maybe got confused over the purpose of this thread - perhaps you should re-read my first post.

I have absolutely made up my mind - I will not be buying another iPhone for the foreseeable future.

I was asking what other people in my position plan on doing and some kind people have made some very useful suggestions and, as such, I look forward to the Samsung Galaxy S2 and, for the first time since 2007, discovering a wholse new way of using a phone.

I understood what your original post said "WON'T like the iPhone 5"

I'm just confused as to how you already know this. Sounds to me like you don't WANT to like Apple or their future products. Where most people are excited and eager to see where iOS goes on version 5. I do wish you luck on the Galaxy.

If the problem is that you want a new phone then buy a NEW iPhone 3GS and stop whining, if you don't like that either then buy a droid.

This one is a good site for Android users.

Of what i have read, it will be released in GB first in Europe at the beginning of may.

Buy a nokia 5280

Get an Android-based HTC.

But if you don't like iPhone, probably you do not like most of the smart phone as well unless you don't like iPhone because of ATT or Verizon :)

i can see the op's point. we've been staring at the same basic phone since 2007. Sure we get multi-tasking and folders, but the basic OS has remained unchanged for 5 years as well as the phone. The only notable improvement is the retina display and more cpu power, but apple couldn't even give us a larger screen out of the deal.

and by the looks of it, the story will remain the same until at least iphone 6 in 2012.

Are you serious??

Why should you dislike the most smartphones, if you dont like the iPhone - they are really different.

iPhone ist the most boring smartphone to me (maybe if i have one since 4 years :p).

Since 2007 nearly the same.

Why are you here then?

I'm -kind of- in the same boat. Bought a 3GS when they first came out. I just hate the idea of buying an iPhone 5 when all signs (right now anyway) are pointing to it being nothing more than an iPhone 4 with a faster processor. I don't like the idea that I'd be buying a 5, then 1 year later is when the iPhone 6 is supposed to come out with all this fancy whiz-bang LTE, NFC, etc. Kind of stuck too...I'd like a new phone but I think I'm forcing myself into a "but look at what cool stuff they'll have right after I buy a 5". Not sure what I'm going to do yet. I really hate my forward-thinking buyers remorse. :)
